Chapter 7
5:30 A.M.
The smell of toast bread was flying through the house, room to room. From the boys' room downstairs you can hear the sizzle of a pan, and another aroma traveled throughout the rooms.Ellie awoke, only to find her roommates weren't in the room. Quietly, she got up and out the door.
From the staircase she could hear chatting. It was a boy and a girl.
"Is there butter on all of the toast?" Kimmie asked Queen. Queen nodded, and continued on with cooking the eggs.
"This house is really nice. Why would the family leave instead of lockdown?" Steve questioned. Queen sighed, "The people who live in this house are an old couple. Well, around their 60s. My mom said their children are adults and left the area, so they probably thought its best to head to the quarantine."
Ellie walked down the stairs and sat at the dinner table across from Steve.
"Good morning," she drowsily said.
Angelo came out, and Jayna arrived too, taking up two more seats by the table.
"Smells great!" complimented Jayna.
Haru got up, but sat across Angelo, farthest away from Ellie. Scarlet got downstairs, hair freshly wet from the shower. Hau got down too, lazily dragging Riley with her.
A plate of sunny-side up eggs were set at the center of the table, along with another plate with a stack of toast. About 11 plates were separated 5-6 on the kitchen counter, along with forks.
"There's no fresh rice. Sorry Asians!" Queen informed.
Connor dragged himself to the table, unconsciously taking a seat. Out of luck, he sat next to Hau.
The whole group grabbed eggs, and the plate went empty. About three pieces of toast were left, and Kimmie decided to take another slice, since no one touched it.
Queen and Kimmie sat on the counters, since they ran out of seats. The group happened to be famished after all the trouble from the day before.
"Are there any drinks here?" Hau asked. Kimmie nodded and tilted her head towards the fridge. "Orange juice," she said
So when the dishes were washed, the cups broke out and everyone was drinking orange juice.
"You guys should head out soon," Scarlet suggested, "so you guys don't happen to run into any trouble when its getting dark."
Riley agreed, "Okay. Steve, find a backpack and get set up. We really should head out soon."
Steve nodded, "Sure," he said, getting up to wash his cup.
Riley and Steve separated into the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms to shower, while the rest of the group stayed downstairs.
Connor was starting to fall asleep on Hau's shoulder, while Jayna and Angelo were chatting about how Netflix should be 'internet free' since the cable was down. Queen and Kimmie were checking outside the window for zambies. Ellie was talking to Scarlet, while Haru tried to see if the power outlet by the fridge was available.
Steve was ready to go, making his way into the living room.
Ellie discreetly glanced at Riley's rifle, which was leaned by the back of the couch.
"Is Riley that heartless? To just shoot?" she whispered to Scarlet. Scarlet disagreed, "We know Riley wouldn't do something without thought."
Steve started to try to listen in after that, very carefully trying not to get caught.
