Chapter 13

2:32 P.M.

"I...I think we're far enough," Haru panted. Riley turned, and the group stayed quiet for a bit. "Yep, we're clear."

They had been following Carissa and running nonstop. Now, they were in the middle of the woods, all catching their breaths.

"Wherever Zack shot, it burst into flames," Carissa said. "I really hope no one got hurt."

"How is it that when Zack shot the dome something happened?" Kimmie questioned. "Oh," said Haru, "Its the leftover ammo."

"Leftover ammo?" Carissa asked. "Yeah," Haru explained, "Its a special type of ammo from Kimmie's shop. Steve told me that him and Zack switched guns."

"What? Why would he leave the ammo with Zack?" Riley asked. Haru shrugged, "Steve said he took the ammo, but I guess he left some in the gun."

"What kind of ammo is this?" asked Carissa.

"Its titanium ammo. It would've damaged the dome pretty bad," said Kimmie.

"Why didn't you guys tell us about this?" Carissa questioned, a bit offended that she wasn't told.

"We didn't want to risk it. You guys could've tried to break into Kimmie's shop and looked for the weapon room. Plus you guys had Zack, and it didn't feel safe," Riley informed.

"I guess that's true. But you guys know you could trust us. Anyways, we should probably start walking again. By 5:00 its going to get dark," Carissa said, continuing to lead the group back to the house.

"You guys are back!" Loreto said, opening the front door. He looked to the group, only to notice that two people were missing and one person wasn't supposed to be there.

The group gathered in the living room, and everyone was waiting there.

"Honestly, we thought the plan would go fas-where's Abby and Zack?" Alissa asked concerned.

"Kimmie, you're still here? I thought you were going with Anthony?" Queen questioned.

"Zack is a turd, we should have never have trusted him," Carissa said to Alissa.

"What are you talking about? He's been helping us out this whole time," Cody stated.

Carissa grunted, "He wasn't even paying attention to the plan. He was too busy talking to Abby."

"I knew it! He's been flirting with Abby the whole time he's stayed with us," Ranica said.

"Right," said Dorthy, "He didn't even agree to join us until Abby asked him."

"That b*tch. Honestly, I thought he was trustworthy! Trust no one," Loreto said with disbelief.

"What's the plan now?" Scarlet spoke, "They could be in trouble."

"Anthony said he'll continue the escape plan and we'll go out to the lab and rescue them by morning," Carissa informed, "We can't leave tonight. The last time we tried that, Maria was left behind."

"Okay," said Ranica, "And we're all going. The more there is of us the better chance we have of rescuing everyone."

"If they're still alive," Haru quietly mumbled. Kimmie nudged his side, signaling for him to keep quiet.

"What did you say Haru?" Hau'oli asked. "Nothing, I was just talking to myself," he replied.

"No, you said if they're still alive. Did something happen during the plan?" Angelo inquired.

Carissa protested, "Nothing happened."

"Lies. You can tell us," Dorthy insisted.

"Zack shot the dome and there was a burst of smoke and flames," Riley told.

"What? How?" Loreto asked.

"He used a titanium bullet from my tool shop. He switched guns with Steve and I guess Steve never took the bullets inside. All we know is that something burst but guards got there and we had to run," Kimmie said.

"Zack is the absolute worst," Alissa said.

"Titanium bullet? Why didn't you tell us that you guys had weapons that powerful? You know something could've happened if we didn't know how strong your weapons were?" Ranica said.

"We weren't sure if we could trust you guys. I mean, you guys had Zack!" Ellie said.

"Hah that's what I said," Riley chuckled.

"C'mon, you guys could trust us, we've all been friends for a while now," Cody said.

"Zack was sketchy," Connor admitted.

"He was sketchy," Alissa agreed, "Its fine. When we rescue him we'll figure out what to do with him."

Queen sighed, "We should probably prepare for tomorrow."

"Yeah, you guys should pack up though. Honestly, I think after the rescue you guys are going to start moving again, right?" Dorthy asked Queen's group. Jayna nodded, "We just need to save Steve and find Kimmie's brother, then we're set."

"When everyone wakes up for tomorrow, some of us will take my van," Riley offered. 

"Cool. Then we'll take our car," Cody informed.

"I can't believe all this," Alissa murmured as she walked into one of the bedrooms. 

"Okay," Queen said, turning over to the group, "grab your weapons and pack your stuff into the van. Remember, we head out first thing tomorrow morning, we have to rescue Steve and find Kim's brother."

"How did Zack mess up?" Dorthy asked. Haru shrugged, "I was guarding the path we took to the clearing the whole time. I didn't know what was happening until I heard a gunshot."

"Gunshot?" Connor asked.

"Steve saved Anthony from a zambie because we had no weapons. We were getting ready to jump into the dome," Kimmie replied.

"Then more zambies came into the area because Zack is stupid, and the dome set off its timer and Abby, Zack, Steve, and Anthony didn't make it out on time," Riley mentioned.

"Makes sense to me. Get some sleep soon, because tomorrow we don't stop until we get all our friends out," Loreto directed. The group nodded as they all got up to prepare.

So the group got all there stuff ready, and the majority of them went to sleep. JDA had already went to bed. But for some of Queen's group, they had trouble sleeping. which was no surprise. Someone was always awake, even though there was literally nothing much to do. There was electricity, but the cable had been down for a while now, and certainly wouldn't be fixed any time soon. Their thoughts were what kept them up. Knowing them, its never a good night's sleep.
