Chapter 26
3:07 P.M.
"So what you're telling me is that the government is actually behind all this? So no one is actually trying to find a cure or anything? And you guys want to find a way to stop it?" Lyric asks, her brain fuzzled with confusion.
"Sounds about right," Kimmie says, and Scarlet shoots a bewildered glance at her.
"I'm in."
"You're what now?" Scarlet asks. Lyric laughs in response.
"If anything, you're going to need more manpower and I don't have much of that but I'm still in, when do we leave?"
"Like, maybe tomorrow afternoon," Kimmie replies. Lyric nods in excitement.
"All right! I'm just gonna pack up some of my things in the other room, I'll be right back."
Scarlet puts down her pencil and turns to Kimmie. "I thought you didn't want to keep going with all this science stuff."
"I didn't," Kimmie admits. "Because my brother told me to stay away from it. But I can't help it."
"You saw your brother?" Scarlet asks. Kimmie never even mentioned him this entire time.
"Yeah, I saw him leaving the second lab. And he told me to stay away from all the trouble. I want to listen to him, but at the same time what good does that do me? A lot more people might die from it."
"I can see why you'd want to do something, but maybe you should take your brother's words into consideration. I think we should calm down and really think our plans through a lot more carefully," Scarlet advises.
"Okay, I'm all set. I really don't have much with me," Lyric says as she steps back into the room.
The three girls get up and head out of the room, greeting Mr. Smith goodbye once again.
"Fancy seeing you guys here."
The three girls jump to find Lena standing right behind them. Lyric and Scarlet looked like they were about to have heart attacks, while Kimmie looked slightly unphased.
"I don't mean to be rude or anything Lena, but please don't do that," Kimmie says. Lena shrugs, giving o, saff a warm but frightening smile to Scarlet and Lyric. Her fangs aren't exactly normal.
"Ah, so you're Lena. Okay, that makes sense. I'm Scarlet." The two shake hands, but Lyric remains skeptical.
"We kind of left you out of the story when we were letting Lyric catch up. Teenage vampire isn't something you hear about everyday," Kimmie says. Lena turns to Lyric, holding up her bag full of yogurt and potato chips.
"See this? This is what I eat. You're fine," Lena assures, reaching into her bag for a potato chip. She offers some to the girls, but they shake the offer away.
"I know why we're here, but why exactly are you here? I thought you were looking for your mom," Kimmie asks Lena as they make their way back to the freshmen lot.
Lena snickers before she replies. "I just had to track down one of your scents. Yours was the most pleasing. It smelt like candy," she explains to Kimmie.
"What did the others smell like?" Lyric asks. Lena scowls as she remembers.
"The one who passed out smelled like sweat, Steve smelled like the lab, and I don't really remember the others. I'm still trying to adjust to the undead life." Lena crunches another chip before continuing on. "I went to look for mom but it got a bit lonely so I wanted to see what you guys were up to."
