SOMEWHERE IN MULTAN.....
'Author's pov'
She chants every "dua" and "aayah" she can think of while rubbing her hot hands together, ruthlessly bending her fingers, and cracking her knuckles in the process. Her stomach and eyeballs spin as she stares at her laptop screen, mimicking the buffering circle. Sweat dripped from her forehead, down through her temple, down her earlobe, and into her hair at some point.
"Will you stop overstating things; you already know that you'll be chosen. What twisted joy do you get from stressing yourself out over these pointless exams?
Her mother says, extending her lip in one direction to show her annoyance.
"Rooh, calm down. She's right." Her light brown hair was gently caressed after hearing a voice that was much softer than her mums. Her grandmother, or ammi, was skilled at soothing her.
Rooh closed her dark brown eyes in contentment, her long lashes brushing on her cheekbones. However, her mother's loud scream breaks up her brief moment of tranquility. "YAAA ALLAH!" "ROOH, you passed!"
When Rooh regained cognition, she quickly verified her results and refuted her mother's words and appearance. She gently wrapped her mauve scarf around herself while she read the information on the screen, knelt down, and prostated in that direction. After giving Allah praise, she hurriedly stood up and clasped her grandmother's hand in one of her pink palms while her mother filled the other. Giving them both her megawatt smile, she began to scream and dance like a madwoman. They were unable to help but be joyful for their little princess.
Three stunning ladies of the house were cuddled up together when the obtrusive sound of the doorbell broke up their momentary moment of bliss.
Rooh sprinted for the door as she hastily escaped their grasp. She screamed "BABA!" before even opening the door. She charged her father after the wooden door was opened to inform him of the outcomes.
" Rooh beta, I can't tell you how proud I am, but baby we can't just let you go there ."
" Why not baba? You know how hard I have worked for this."
"Princess, I understand you, but I cannot bring myself to depart from you somewhere where I don't trust anyone." There was no room for discussion in his strong statement. But because she was his daughter, she was able to influence him. She instinctively pursed her bottom lip and remembered the time her mother had reprimanded her in front of the entire neighborhood for stealing plums from the garden of the neighbor. In no time, she started crying. As her mother entered, her father winced at the sight of her sad face and stood up to comfort her.
"Do you want to die, Kazim? You have no right to make my gudya cry." Kazim was bewildered as his mother fired draggers in his direction and his daughter began sobbing more loudly, adding fuel to the flames. He could see his mother's nostrils flare up in rage. He raised his hands in surrender as she angled the support stick she was using towards him, and he quickly described the entire issue.
"Is that it?"She seemed unperturbed. Although Rooh was to continue her education in Karachi, hundreds of miles away from Multan, it had to be fate. She had a deep understanding of his anxiety. She believed that Allah had provided her with a chance to make amends with her sister. Even though she was aware that she would never be able to make up for everything she had lost in the past, this was a sign that relationships needed to be patched up before she left.
She remarked, "Rooh doesn't have to live in dorms or anything," since she was aware that this was her son's main concern. As she approached them while wiping her hands on the hem of her scarf, her daughter-in-law asked, "What are you suggesting, mamma?" "Rooh will reside with the family we have in Karachi." Shabana and I will speak. She saw the wide-eyed gaze of Kazim and Minal." You're suggesting that my kid resides with those self-centered, avaricious, and shameless people," Kazim erupted in utter wrath, unconcerned with anything.
"Kazim Listen." He responded to Amna's attempts to soothe him by asking, "What do you want me to listen to mamma? Do you wish to offer up one more of this family's daughters to them? Even though she is 16 years old, Mamma my Rooh acts like a young child. You want me to send my daughter there despite the fact that you are fully aware that those individuals would hurt and ruin her."
"Kazim, my sister, and I have spoken; they are ashamed of the past. Although I realize it's selfish, consider it my dying desire."
"Ammi!!" Please refrain from saying things like this, Rooh pleaded."Rooh, baby, go to your room, and we'll talk tomorrow." Dangerously composed, Kazim said. After giving her parents and her ammi one last look, Rooh vigorously wiped her eyes with her sleeves and marched to her room.
NEXT MORNING...
Although Rooh was already dressed for breakfast, she was dreading going downstairs. She wasn't yet prepared to speak to her father or to give up her goals. The unexpected tap on the door broke up her train of thought. "Rooh, princess, let me in." She could hear her father's unusually calm voice. When she quickly sprang up and opened the door, her father was standing there. He forced her to sit next to him on the bed after she allowed him in and stated, "Mama might have managed to convince me, but you're going to call me every day and if anything, and by anything, I mean anything happens, you are coming home."
She could feel herself disappearing from view, so she didn't say anything foolish to ruin the moment. Instead, she simply nodded. You should start packing, you're leaving in a week, her father said her after giving her one long look. As soon as it was over, Rooh threw her hands in the air in joy."I love you so much, Baba, you're the best of the best."
Her father was frightened even more by her naivety as she began to twerk and laugh aloud. For the Shahmiri family, the week vanished in an instant.
