Felix pov~
I yawned and stretched out my limbs on the couch. I looked through our window, and it was completely dark outside, the sun having gone down hours ago. Dad was in the kitchen cleaning up something. I got up from my spot on the couch and went towards the fire. It was starting to burn down and lose its heat. I went beside it and picked up a log, then tossed it in the fire. I knelt in front of the fireplace, watching as the flames licked greatfully at the wood. Lately, I have been feeling a pull towards the fire more. I have always been good at fire magic, and obviously, wind magic that most werebirds can do, but i can tell that it has gotten stronger ever since my 18th birthday a month ago.
Mesmerized by the fire, I just stayed there, not moving. I loved the way the fire's colors faded. Starting from the bright yellow-white at the bottom, then smoothly going into a calm orange and finally flowing into a deep red.
"FELIX," my dad yelled in annoyance from the kitchen. I jumped at the sound, not realizing he had been calling my name, and bumped my shoulder on the shelf above the fireplace. The things on the fireplace suddenly started to fall down, and I quickly caught the golden egg before it fell, knowing my dad would kill me if it got scratched.
"Sor- sorry dad," I stampered, then signed in relief. He came out of the kitchen with a confused look on his face.
"What was that sound -" he started to say, then widened his eyes at the sight of me holding the egg with the other fallen things surrounding me. "AH, what happened!? Did the egg fall?!" He quickly demanded as he rushed over and took the egg out of my arms and scanned it for any flaws.
"No no no it is fine. I caught it before it fell, and I accidentally hit my shoulder on the shelf," I explained quickly, waving my hands in front of me. My dad sighed in relief and then looked back up at me, his sliver eyes softening as they moved toward my shoulder.
"Is your shoulder ok," he asked worried about me as he put his hand on my shoulder, "and why did you not answer me the first few times I called you," he continued and looked back to my eyes.
"Oh, my shoulder is fine, and I was just.. looking at the fire and got distracted," I mumbled as I rubbed the back of my neck in embarrassment. I saw a look of.. worry? Cross over his face, but it was gone as quickly as it came.
"Oh well, please be more careful next time," he replied after he cleared his throat and took a quick, nervous glance down at the egg. We stayed silent for a moment, staring at each other before he spoke again. "You should go on ahead to bed, I have a meeting I need to go to," he looked away and then set the egg back up on the shelf.
"True, I am tired," I agreed and then picked up the things on the floor that fell and put them back up on the shelf next to the egg. We said good night to one another, and then I headed down the hall and turned into my room on the right. I fell onto my nest and tossed the covers over me.
I wonder why he had that look on his face when he said that. And why he glanced down at the egg as if it held the answer. Dad said that the egg was very precious to him because it was the last thing he had from my mom. I don't remember much of my mom because i was only one when she died. He never told me what happened except that she had been killed.
My last thoughts before I drifted off to sleep were of that strange golden egg decoration.
Westley pov (Felix's father)~
I watched my son's back recede into the hallway and into his room. I sighed as I looked down at the egg on the shelf. "What am I going to do about our son," I quietly questioned the egg as I thought of my wife. I shook off those thoughts remembering I had a meeting to get to.
I left my home and began my walk towards the main building, a big tree house in the middle of our village. I breathed in the night air and let it relax me. I looked up at the two moons above me , seeing I would not be late at my current pace towards the meeting. I began my slow climb up the rope bridges into the tree house area above the ground homes. The wood creaked under my heavy feet as I continued my stroll towards the main building. I reached the doors and paused as I heard the loud voices within. I took a deep breath and pushed open the doors.
"-go now, before it is too late," I heard Sera yell, standing with her hands leaning on the table as she glared at the front of the table. All eyes moved in my direction as I entered. Looks like I was the last to arrive.
"Ah, glad to see you made it, Westley," the head elder Raymond sighed in relief at the break from the argument. Sera huffed and sat back down in her chair.
"Finally," I heard Oscar scoff from the right side of the table, sending a smirk my way. Of course, Tyler's father would be the first to say something. I sent a kind smile his way, knowing it would get on his nerves.
"Please come and take a seat," Elder Raymond said, ignoring Oscar's remark. I sent a respectful nod his way and made my way over to Sera on the right side of the table, sitting down in the chair next to hers. I sent a small smile her way, her face still set in anger. "Now that all the elders are here, we can begin the meeting," Elder Raymond announced and hit the table twice with his fist, signaling the start of our meeting.
