The mountains had gotten better the more West we went. We had walked for a few hours, and most of the mountains were spread further apart. There were more trees too.
"It would be great if there was a lake or pond that I could take a dip in," Steven huffed as he looked around for a body of water. The sun was very hot, and Steven and Aurora were sweating. I guessed since I was turning more into a phoenix, I was getting more used to the heat. It actually felt good to me.
"There will probably be one along our path soon," I chuckled, and Steven sighed dramatically as he faned himself with his wing. He had changed into his half form just so he could fan himself. Aurora flew into the air and scanned the area ahead of us, then landed back onto the ground.
"There is a water fall about half a mile ahead of us," she stated calmly and patted Steven on the back. He jumped gracefully into the air in joy, shouting happily. I chuckled at him, and he gave Aurora a big, long kiss. I walked past them and towards the falls.
We found the water fall and decided to swim since we were already going to get their soon.
Steven and I took off our shirts and jumped into the water. I came up to the surface and shook my head, getting the water out of my hair. I looked over at Aurora to see she was by the edge of the water. She had put a foot in the water and decided it was too cold. I looked at Steven and sent him a silent nod. He looked back at me and nodded as well. He sunk back into the water and swam under to where Aurora was. She was watching the sky, then Steven burst out of the water and latched onto her. She screamed as they both fell back into the water.
I burst out laughing as they came back up. Aurora glared at Steven and smacked his shoulder. He smirked at her, then dragged her to him and kissed her passionately.
I chuckled, then went to the edge of the water and got out. I looked back at them, and they were still making out. I just walked away and picked my shirt back up, putting it on.
I took a stroll through the trees surrounding the waterfall. It had been some time since I had last walked around, enjoying nature.
I had been wondering what I would say to my mom when I finally saw her again. First, I would hug her and hold her for as long as she would let me. I would then tell her all about the village and fighting and... dad. I bet she misses dad more than anything.
I sighed and looked up at the sky. The sun was almost halfway through the sky. I looked at a branch on a tree and saw a blue bird.
"Hello there, blue bird," I called out to it. The bird tilted its head at me and fluttered its wings happily.
"Hello, my fellow bird. What is it you have heard?" The bird greeted me and then questioned. It must have seen my stress and wondered what I was thinking. I always loved how birds spoke in rhythm.
"I was just thinking of my mom," I responded as I sat down and leaned on the tree trunk. The blue bird flew down and landed on my knee.
"I have a mother as well as a brother," the bird chirped happily and did a little hop. I chuckled at the little creature.
"I am glad you have them, but my mom is.. lost," I explained, trying not to complicate my words.
"That is bad, but don't be sad. You look for her, even in the blur. Find you will, just a small hill," the bird chirped, trying to comfort me. I smiled at the bird and petted it on the head.
"Thank you for the kind words," I mumbled and then started standing up. The bird flew away and back to the branch it had been on before.
"Goodbye to you, I see you anew," the bird chirped then flew off. I watched it go with a smile, then turned back around towards the water fall.
Steven and Aurora were now out of the water and drying themselves off, with the help of Steven's wind magic.
"There you are, we were wondering where you went," Steven chuckled as he saw me approach. I rolled my eyes and picked up my bag.
"I refuse to be in a situation where you two are making out," I responded, and their faces went red. I smirked at them and turned away.
They followed behind me after a moment, and we continued on our journey after that brief detour.
After walking for many more hours, the sun was much lower in the sky. The area we were in seemed more.. vibrant, then it was an hour ago.
"Is it just more, or did the surrounding area become more beautiful," I asked Steven and Aurora as I looked more at the land. They both stopped and looked around as well.
"I had been thinking that too," Steven agreed and looked at Aurora. She was observing the area closer, then nodded in agreement.
"I think," she began and looked back at us, "it is a creature that lives here," she finished then looked back around. We waited for her to tell us what it was, but she stayed quiet.
"Well, do you know what creature that is," Steven slowly asked, and Aurora turned to us and hummed a yes, then continued walking. Steven and I shared a confused look and then followed after her.
"Can you tell us what it is," I asked her, getting annoyed with her tight-lipped behavior.
"They are of no trouble to us, very peaceful. You will just have to wait and see," she replied simply and shrugged her shoulders. Steven and I groaned but kept following her nonetheless. I wondered what creature could affect the land around it so much.
