Felix pov~
We had been walking for many hours and the sun was lower in the sky now. I was feeling much better, only my feet were sore after all this walking. I looked up as Steven's owl form flew above me and then came down to land beside me. I stopped then crouched down so he didn't have to look up as much.
"I found a small stream of water a little bit ahead of us, so we can refill our water and take a break," he happily hooted as he hopped on his feet some.
"Thank God," I sighed in relief, wanting to wash the sweat off of me. "Lead the way," I told him, smiling as I stood back up. He playfully did a little bow, putting a wing in front of him and bending slightly. He then flaped his wings once and then took off into the air. I chuckled as I followed his barn owl self. Within a few moments, I began to hear the steady flow of water and then saw it. I came up to the water and knelt down. I pulled out my water container from my bag and filled it with the clear water.
"Ahh, that feels good," Steven mumbled as he floated past me with his wings spread out in the water. I shook my head at him and then splashed him. He glared at me, then sent a wave of wind towards me that picked up some water and hit my face. We both started to laugh and continued splashing each other. Now that I was washed off and cooled down, we continued heading west.
We reached the edge of the jungle right as the sun was touching the horizon. Past the tall jungle trees was a big meadow that separated the jungle from the growing mountains beyond.
"This looks like a good spot to sleep," Steven observed, looking around where he had chosen, now in human form. I looked at the few trees surrounding the spot and the leaf coverage if it rained, as well as a good spot to make a fire.
"I like it," I responded, nodding as I set my bag beside one of the trees. Steven sat down and leaned on a trunk, then slung his pack off his shoulder, then closed his eyes. "I am going to collect some firewood before it gets too dark," I told, and he nodded his head slightly. He must be tired as well.
I left him alone and got as much wood as I could carry and went back to the camp. I set it down to the side and then put a pile of them in the middle of our camp. I easily brought fire to my hand and lit the dry wood. The fire licked at the wood and slowly grew bigger, warming the area. I smiled, now knowing why I was so attracted to fire. I frowned, though, when I remembered that my mom/egg was somewhere, and those disgusting vampires were doing something to her.
"Hey," Steven called out to me, breaking me from my thoughts. I looked up at him, and he looked worried. "It is going to be ok," he reassured me and gave me a smile. I sighed, sitting down and then leaning on the trunk behind me.
"Thanks, I just started thinking about.. my mom," I sighed with a sad look on my face. "I can not believe that my mother has been alive all this time," I mumbled picking up a twig and fiddling with it, "and then I went and let her be taken from me," I huffed frustrated and snapped the twig in half. Steven stayed silent for a moment. The sun now gone, and the glow of the fire lighting up his kind face.
"You had no clue, and there was nothing you could have done," he comforted me as I blankly stared at the fire. I knew he was right, but I couldn't stop blaming myself. "Look at that sight," he changed the subject, and my attention went to what he was looking at. The meadow beyond had many flowers that were glowing softly. I smiled at the beautiful sight. We watched the glowing flowers sway slightly in the breeze.
"Wow," I mumbled in awe as lightning bugs began to come out, flashing their small yellow glow every now and then. I saw a pretty purple glow that seemed to be heading towards us. Did a flower break away in the wind? The purple glow got closer, and I realized it was a fairy.
Fairies are not that common because they only mate once, and once their mate dies, they don't mate again. They glow and come in many different colors and get to only around 4 inches. As well they are very beautiful, and since they are tiny and talk too fast, their voices are a hum. They can actually live for a few millenniums. Little is actually known about them and their magic.
Steven widened his eyes once he saw the fairy. We both stayed silent as it slowly made its way to the fire, looked around, and then sat. I heard that fairies sometimes come to fires thinking it is more fairies.
"Hello there," Steven gently said, and the fairy moved its head toward him. He waved his hand, and she waved back. I held back a laugh, looking at Steven's goofy face of joy. I thought for a second, realizing something.
"By any chance, did you see some vampires heading this way," I asked curiously, and she looked towards me. She tilted her head and then nodded. I smiled, relieved that we were on the right path.
"Soooo... do you live around here," Steven asked, trying to make small talk. I rolled my eyes at him, and he shrugged. The fairy made a little chiming sound, laughing. Steven stared at her in amazement.
"Well, I would love to entertain you more.. fairy, but I am tired and going to sleep," I yawned to them, and they looked at me, both smiling.
"Well I am going to stay up for a bit," Steven chuckled, "I want to spend time talking with our friend," he continued as he layed down to be on eye level with the fairy, leaning his head on his hand. I tiredly nodded and shifted into my peacock form. I hopped up into the tree, flapping some. I found a nice big branch and went to sleep.
