Felix pov~
I began to stir awake, I slowly opened my eyes. The sun was just coming up, a cool breeze still left in the air. I stood up and shook my feathers out, then stretched out my wings. I opened my beak and yawned. I looked down across from me in the opposite tree. Steven was there in his owl form... with the fairy huddled beside him? I guess they became friends fast. I shrugged and looked curiously at my feathers. They seemed to be getting more orange, and i feel slightly bigger. I shrugged it off, must be my phoenix side showing more. I then glided down to the burnt remains of our fire.
Curiously, I stepped onto the pile of ashes. It felt good. I lay down in them, enjoying the warmth, almost falling back to sleep. I wonder if I could bathe in lava. I got up before I fell back to sleep and shifted to human form.
"Steven, time to get up," I called up to him. I saw him shuffle and then spread out his wings.
"Ughh, fine,"he grumbled and flew down to me. He shifted before touching the ground and landed on his feet, then instantly fell face first to the ground. "I am too tired for thissss," he groaned. I chuckled at his clumsiness, and he turned his head to me and glared. The fairy flew down from the tree and landed on his head.
"Too bad, so sad," I responded, still chuckling, and the little fairy joined in. "Let's get moving and say goodbye to your fairy friend," I continued as I bent down and picked up my bad. Steven pushed himself up and then frowned. He sadly took the fairy off of his head and onto his hand. He stared down at her sadly as she sat on his hand.
"I guess this is goodbye, Aurora," he mumbled, upset. I guess he got her name. I felt bad that they couldn't stay together, but I doubt she would want to come. The little fairy, Aurora, hugged his thumb and hummed a sad goodbye. Steven watched as she flew over to a group of flowers, and lots of fairies flew up from them.
"Come on, Steven, maybe you can see her on our way back," I told him, looking at him with pity. He looked at me hopefully and nodded his head. We both watched the group of fairies leave, then Steven picked up his bag and slung it back onto his shoulder.
"It was so fun talking to her, especially trying to figure out what she was saying," he mumbled and smiled to himself. I patted him on the back and then started walking through the meadow.
"I bet," I chuckled, "well, it will take a few hours to reach the mountains, so let's not delay it any longer," I continued cheerfully trying to cheer him up. He sighed behind me, and I turned around to say something else but paused and smirked at him.
"What," he asked when he saw me, "what are you - AH," he began again, then yelped in pain. He widened his eyes as Aurora flew from off his head and in front of him. He instantly brightened up and smiled at her.
"Are you wanting to come with us," he questioned her, putting up a brow. She nodded her head and went back to sitting in his hair. "Even though I told you what we are doing," he asked, unsure, his face dipping some in a frown. She just hummed in response and then pulled his hair. "Ah, okay, understood," he quickly said, flinching in pain, but smiled happily nonetheless.
I was happy we got to have more company on our journey and started to walk beside them. "So, are you going to introduce me to our guest," I asked, bumping him in the shoulder.
"Oh yah," he exclaimed, " Felix meet Aurora, Aurora meet Felix," he excitedly continued. I looked at Aurora and smiled, tilting my head. She hummed and fluttered her wings. We continued talking as we walked across the meadow to the mountains.
After crossing the meadow
I leaned on a rock, slightly panting after crossing the meadow. I wiped the sweat from my forehead head. There were barely any trees for shade against the sun, making us very hot. Maybe I couldn't swim in Lava...
Steven and Aurora looked more sweaty than I did, Steven was lying on the ground with Aurora on his chest, also laying tiredly. I looked up at the sky. The sun was halfway across the sky now.
"Come on, we can find a water source once we get into the mountains," I sighed and stood back up. Steven groaned and dragged himself to his feet as he held Aurora against his chest so she wouldn't fall. I smiled at them, trying not to laugh.
"Sorry, not all of us are resistant to the heat, "Steven huffed as he set Aurora on his head. I shrugged my shoulders at them and turned around, continuing into the growing mountains. A few more minutes later, we found a small clear pond.
"Finally," Steven groaned as he tossed his bag to the ground and walked up to the water. He spread out his arms and let himself fall in, Aurora quickly flew off his head before he hit the water. I laughed at his goofiness, and he sat up in the water with a satisfied smile. I just splashed water on my face and drank some. Aurora hummed and landed on Steven's hand. "Sorry Aurora, I needed to cool down," he chuckled, and Aurora just huffed.
After cooling down, we continued heading deeper into the mountains. The trees were a lot less thicker than the jungle, but definitely more than in the meadow. There were more big rocks around, and we had to walk up and down some inclines.
"Hey, what's that," Steven asked as we made it up an incline and saw something in the distance. I squinted at it and then smiled.
"Looks like we won't have to sleep outside tonight," I responded, turning to them with a grin on my face. Steven grined back at me as he saw what it was, too. We finally found the village. Of what creature I don't know, though.
(Wonder what creatures are there..?)
