Westley pov~

"It had been a year since you had hatched," I started and Felix looked at me weirdly, "phoenix hatch from eggs and since your mother was the female, you were an egg," I explained smiling at his confused expression. "We were in her home, a cave on top of a mountain..."

Back to the pastttt~~

"Come here, my little baby," my wife, Scarlett, called to our son as she moved her hands in front of her. Felix giggled and wobbly ran towards her. He tripped on the way. Scarlett quickly moved a wing out from behind her and caught him. Felix giggled more as he played with her feathers. She stroked his blue hair softly. Phoenix don't have full human forms, only ones with wings on their backs and a tail, along with random feathers across their bodies. I smiled at them, and my wife looked up at me. She sent me a wink and I laughed. Suddenly, the cave began to violently shake, we looked around in confusion. The entrance of the cave, which was blocked by a rock wall, shook and began to crumble.

"Something is attacking the entrance," I stated, frowning as I stood up and shifted to half form, preparing for a fight. She angrily glared at the entrance, her orange eyes burning with fury.

"How about you go and hide, and we will find you," she mumbled softly to Felix, his eyes orange lit up as he ran into a side room. She nodded to me, and we faced the entrance of the cave.

It continued to rattle for a bit, then caved in and collapsed. Dust flew past us, and through the dust, we saw multiple figures standing outside in the dark. "Sorry about that, it was in our way," one of the figures snickered as it stepped out into the light of our cave. It was an old vampire. I hissed at him, fanning out my tail feathers.

Without another word, he whistled, and 7 chupacabras came rushing towards us. Scarlett quickly went into her flaming large phoenix form and breathed fire at them. I sliced the heads of two of them off. Vampires came after them wearing some sort of armor. Scarlett continued to blow fire at them, but they were unfazed. She stopped realizing it was fire protection armor. I quickly jumped in and attacked them, cutting off heads and the swiping low at their legs all with my wings. They fell into ashes before me and Scarlett flew past me and rammed into more of the vampires, pushing her way outside. I ran after her worried, as I saw that vampire from before sneaking away while smiling. Before I could reach her, she was slammed into the ground where a circle began to glow around her.

"NO," I shrieked as I quickly made my way to the ones powering the spells circle. More vampires jumped in front of me, but I quickly decapitated them and sliced into the back of one of the ones powering the circle. I glanced towards my wife as she began to screech in pain and trying to move from her spot. More chupacabras and vampires swarmed me. I felt multiple things dig into my skin but ignored them as I sent a wave of wind magic swirling around me and blowing them away. I killed two more of the 6 remaining vampires powering the circle, and it gave up. The glowing circle faded, and Scarlett shakily stood back up.

I ran to her and quickly fought off anything that came near. I didn't expect a spear to come flying through the air towards her. I put up my wing to stop it, but it was too late. It stabbed her directly into the heart, and she fell down. I held her big head in my arms as tears fell from my eyes. She smiled at me. Then  she slowly shrank and turned into ash. The ashes began to swirl and then formed into an egg.

I wiped away my tears and snatched her egg up, and ran into the cave. I sent a sharp wind to the top of the cave, making it collapse and block the entrance. I ran into the room my son went into before. "FELIX, hurry we are.. going on an adventure," I called out hesitantly at the end. He hurried out from his hiding spot excitedly. I picked him up and ran out of the room and into the one beside it. I set him and the egg onto the bed and moved the closet, revealing a hole behind it. I picked them both back up and entered the hole, closing it behind me.

Back to the present ~~

"From then, I was able to escape and go back to here. Sera helped me out," I finished sadly thinking about that day.

"I don't understand," Felix mumbled confusedly as he stared at me. "She died..?" He questioned, looking at me for answers.

"Phoenix can live for a millennium, and when killed, they rebirth into an egg. Taking 20 years to hatch back out and then form back to their form before they died, memories and everything intact," I explained to him, and he slowly nodded in understanding, then stopped.

"So you're telling me I would have seen her in three more years," he slowly asked, bewildered. I smiled and nodded.

"Now that you are 18, your phoenix side will start to come out as you have seen already, but enough talking. You need to pack up and go, I heard they were seen headed west into the mountains." I quickly explained, starting to worry about my wife and what they would do to her.

"I will," he nodded and stood up, "I love you," he said as a tear left his eye.

"I love you too," I responded with a smile and grabbed his hand, and squeezed it. I let go, and he left out of the hut. I looked up at the roof of the hut in worry.

"He is strong. He can do this," Sera reassured me as she squeezed my hand. I looked at her and smiled.

"I know... thanks for being here, Sera. You really are like the sister I never had," I chuckled, and she joined me. God be with him in his journey.
