Felix pov~
I woke up much better than I had yesterday and shook my feathers out. It was nice and bright, the sun had just risen. I was the first awake. I glanced down at my mom to see she had not moved from her previous position. I put my ear to her chest to make sure she was still alive, and she was.
I stood up straight and stretched out my wings and tilted my head at the few black feathers I had not seen before on my wing. I looked away and shifted to my human form.
"Get up, I want to get home already," i chuckled as I woke up Steven and Aurora. Steven groaned and stretched out his arms. Aurora sat up and fluttered her wings, then stood. Steven got up and kissed her on her head. I rolled my eyes at their interactions and turned to my mom.
"Hmm, do you think I should carry her in human or bird," I asked as I stared at my mom, thinking about what to do. Steven walked over to me and stood beside me.
"It would probably be easier as a bird," he put in as he waved a hand at her. I slowly nodded and shifted back to my bird form. "Wow, you sure are big now," Steven marveled at my Phoenix form. I ruffled my feathers and lay on the ground.
"Can you put her on me," I asked Steven as I looked at him. He nodded happily and easily picked her up and set her on my back. I stood back up and shuffled from foot to foot, making sure she would not fall.
"We will still have to walk because I am too scared she will fall off of my back," I sighed as I turned to them. Steven shrugged and picked up our bags.
"Not much different from what we have been doing," he replied.
"True. Well, we just need to head south," I said and faced the south. They both nodded, and we started our journey back home. They walked ahead of me, and I twisted my head around to check on my mom. I wondered when she would wake up.
Awhile later
We had just made it up a steep incline and were now walking on a mountain range. I took a glance back at my mom once more. She still had not woken up. I faced forward again and sighed.
"What is wrong, Felix?" Steven asked and stopped to look at me. I stopped walking and looked at the ground.
"I was just hoping that she would wake soon... so I could talk with her before we got to the village," I mumbled as I scratched at the ground with a talon. Steven came up to me and patted my wing.
"Do not worry, she will wake up soon. We only just started and have awhile more to go," Steven comforted me, then turned back around. I nodded to myself and glanced back at her again.
"It just takes time," Aurora added and gave me a pat on the wing as well. They were right. We kept on walking.
I looked around us as we walked. There we not many trees on top of this mountain range, then again it is hard to grow roots in rock. I observed the higher mountain beside us and then turned away. I quickly jerked my head back towards it in surprise. "That is not good," I mumbled, catching the attention of Steven and Aurora.
"What - oh no," Steven muttered as he looked at what had caught my attention. "Hippogriffs," he huffed out as we watched a fulsome of hippogriffs fly at us.
Hippogriffs have the head, wings, and front of an eagle and the back of a horse. They are territorial and have great sight and hearing. They are clumsy in the air because of their extra weight. Could become your best friend if you feed one regularly rabbit feet, but otherwise, very dangerous creatures.
I quickly set my mother down on the ground and then hissed at the hippogriffs, fanning out my tail feathers, menacingly. Steven and Aurora came closer to me.
"If the two of you can protect my mom, I can take care of this," I told them as the hippogriffs got closer. They looked up at me and nodded hesitantly.
I did not wait any longer and took off. I know that hippogriffs are very dangerous, but for some reason, I felt really excited. I flared up and charged full speed toward the fulsome excitedly. I reached the first one and bit into its neck, then threw it. It smashed into the ground, dead. Two more hippogriffs clawed at my sides, and I made my fire flare up more and burned their feathers, making them fall to the ground. I then spit a fire ball at another one, roasting it on the spot. I grined at the fun I was having.
The rest of the hippogriffs started to back off, and I frowned. I did not want my fun to end so soon. I spit another large fire ball at the backs of two more. I grined again as I saw my orange and black fire devoure them. Wait.. black? I shook my head and looked at my back. More of my feathers had turned black, and there were black flames dancing across my back.
I quickly let my fire burn out and went back over to Steven and Aurora. They cheered when I came back.
"Nice job, you sure did scare them away," Steven exclaimed as I landed. I just silently nodded my head and walked back over to my mom.
"What is wrong," Aurora asked as she layed a hand on my wing. I flinched and moved away from her, scared I might lash out.
"Sorry i.. I think I am still corrupted," I shakily responded as I spread out my wing and showed my increasing black feathers. Steven and Aurora both paled at the sight of them.
"That is.. not good," Steven mumbled as he ran a hand through his hair. I ruffled my feathers in annoyance at his remark.
"You think," I hissed down at him, making him back away and putting up his hands in surrender. I gasped and shrunk back. "I did not mean that," I quickly corrected myself and shook my head. Aurora and Steven looked at each other, worried.
"I think I know a way to help you," Aurora stated as she looked me in the eyes. I looked back at her hopefully. "My other fairy friends can help by purifying you," she explained, I nodded my head quickly.
I shifted back into my human form and picked up my mom. "I think I could do less damage in this form," I sighed, and they both nodded.
"Looks like more of your blue hair has gone black," Steven pointed out as he took in a breath. I frowned and walked past them. We needed to get back as fast as possible before something entertaining happened. Wait, NO, before something BAD happens. I growled at myself and sped up.
