We had walked for an hour, and the sun had set. We found a nice place to camp under a cluster of trees. I easily made a fire with wood that we had found, and we sat around the fire. I looked up at Steven and Aurora, their faces glowing orange in the firelight. They were sitting beside each other. I snorted at the thought that came to my mind. They looked at me with a question in their eyes.
"I was just thinking if Aurora missed getting a free ride on your head," I chuckled out, and Steven grined, looking at Aurora. She rolled her eyes at us.
"It was covenant," she mumbled as a blush crept up her face. Steven and I laughed at her, and she glared at us but then joined in. We settled down after a while and stared silently at the fire. "You know," Aurora began to say, and we looked at her, "when I first came to your fire, I was just bored. I thought think it was different fairies with.. different stories," she continued as she played with a piece of wood. "Then I found you two, and I enjoyed listening to Steven," she smiled to herself. "After hearing what an adventure you two were going on, I wanted to join you. I had not been on an adventure in a long time," she sighed and tossed the stick into the fire. It flared up for a moment, happy at the new food. "And then I got to know the two of you so much, especially Steven," she looked over at Steven and gave him a soft smile. "I never in my wildest dreams would have expected this," she chuckled as she gestured to herself.
"You never fully explained what you did to save Steven," I asked curiously, since we were talking about her. She looked flustered for a moment and then sighed.
"I.. I could not let him die," she mumbled softly and leaned back on the trunk behind her. The shadows hid more of her face now that she was further from the light. "I bound my soul to Steven's," she hesitantly began to say, "it made me fit to be for.. him," she continued, and I could tell she was getting more flustered. "Now, if he dies, I die," she sighed and glanced at him. Steven looked shocked at what she had said.
"What kind of magic spell was that," he asked, confused. I was interested to know if my suspicions were correct. She leaned forward and back into the light, then gulped. She looked very nervous.
"Steven.. I feel for you as I have never felt for another," she stuttered, very flustered, Steven went red instantly. I looked between them with a wide smile. I smiled to myself and leaned back, watching what would finally unfold.
"I.. I feel the same, I thought you only liked me as a friend," Steven mumbled as he scratched the back of his neck. Aurora smiled so big and threw her arms around him, hugging him. He instantly returned the hug and closed his eyes happily. Cute. They pulled away after a moment, and then Aurora sighed.
"You know fairies only mate once," she asked nervously, and Steven nodded his head. "We usually, after a few centuries, become bonded mates," she continued, and Steven still looked confused. I chuckled, catching on. She sighed, frustrated, and looked Steven in the eyes. "I made you my bonded mate," she admitted finally, and Steven opened his mouth in an 'o'. "I am sorry I did it without your consent," she mumbled and looked down ashamed. He lifted her face up with his hand gently.
"You saved my life," he mumbled to her, "you are my life," he whispered to which I almost couldn't hear. I was nearly chewing on my nails in anticipation, i needed some snacks for this entertainment.
She looked so relieved to hear that. They were both smiling at each other. I rolled my eyes and decided I would help them. I sent a wisp of wind magic, pushing both of their backs. They were then pushed into each other, now their faces only an inch apart. They closed their eyes and kissed. Steven wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer to him, deepening the kiss.
I smirked at them, then shifted to a bird and flew to the highest branch. I thought they needed their alone time.. being newly weds and all. I chuckled and settled comfortably on the branch and fell asleep.
I woke up early the next morning. The sun has hidden behind a mountain, making it dim. I looked down and saw the two love birds snuggled up into one another. I smiled, happy they finally acknowledged their feelings. I could tell they had been hiding it for a while. I sighed, wondering if I would find my own love. One day, I would find the right girl for me.
I looked at my peacock and saw I had gotten bigger again. I wondered how large I would get because I didn't know my mother's size. My feathers had taken more of a red color, too. The original colors were still there, just with reds added. I shook off the thoughts, leaving them for another time. I stretched and then flew down to the ground. Flying was much easier since I was becoming more phoenix like.
"Wake up, love birds, you two are making me feel lonely," I snickered, and they began to stir awake. Steven opened his eyes and smiled when he saw Aurora's head tucked into his chest. Aurora lifted up her head and smiled up at him. They shared a brief kiss and then got up. I definitely felt lonely now. I huffed as I shifted back into my human form.
"One day, my friend, one day," Steven chuckled as he stretched and rested his head on Aurora's, standing behind her between her wings. She tickled his face with her wings, and he laughed and moved away. He grabbed his bag and tossed me mine. I caught it and rolled my eyes.
"And when I do, I definitely will not be as naive as you were," I responded and smirked at him. He huffed and looked at Aurora for support. She looked to the side, not disagreeing.
"Come on, even my mate thinks I am naive," he muttered as he walked away. Aurora chuckled and went after him. I laughed and followed.
