"I'm going to New York to see KaiLani just in case she did go home. Listen I regret not hearing her out that night okay, I didn't even want to leave her in the first place. I ran away from the Mafia just to live normal for a while then ended up meeting her. I fell in love and then when my father found out where I was he forced me to take over. I didn't want to leave, and if I would have listened to her that night I wouldn't have left for damn sure."

When I met Ace he was happy, he was always smiling and laughing, just a fun person to be around. A lot of things happened when we lost contact, but we met again at an underground fight. I was 17 and he was 19. I asked him why he was there. He ran away from the mafia responsible. He didn't want to take over, he just wanted to be a normal person. He didn't want to be ruthless, a killer, known for death. He wanted to be known as a good person, kind spirited, and peaceful.

He ran away to find peace. After that we kept each other's numbers, a few years later he told me about this girl and how he wanted me to meet her. He loved her with his heart, he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Then he had to leave, I remember he cried over her. He was truly hurt; he had to leave the person he loved.

Ever since then he hasn't had any emotions besides sarcasm, sadness, and anger. He was unhappy, he was sad all the time. When he wasn't sad he was mad. I missed seeing him happy, when he met her again even though it was on weird terms a piece of the person I knew came back.

When he told me that he was going to New York there was something in his eyes I haven't seen in a while. True Emotion. He didn't just want to see his son, he wanted her too. He wanted his family.

Ace use to always talk about being a dad, showing the love to his kid that his dad didn't show him. His dad cared more about the well-being of The Mafia than he did about Ace. Ace isn't a bad person he never was, he was just a good person who had good things taken from him. He was a good person who turned cold. He know has a chance to get what he always wanted. Even though he didn't say it, he'll do anything to have a family.

I walked to Zane's home office knocking on his door. "Come in." His voice said on the other end. I opened the door and closed it. "When you found the info on KaiLani did you find her number?" I asked, he continued doing paperwork. "Yes but I didn't give it to Ace because he would've made shit worse."

I sighed, "Look, can I have the number?" He stopped what he was doing looking up from the paperwork. "Why?" I sighed walking closer to the desk. "Ace is going to New York to talk to her. When he was talking to me about her and their son I saw something I haven't seen in a long time. The real Ace. He wasn't his cold angry self, he finally had emotion in his voice on his face. H-he wants his family back. I want to talk to her and see if she'll just agree to listen but I need the number."

Zane stared deep into thought, "Okay, but don't give it to Ace just yet." He said, I nodded "I promise." Once getting the number I walked to my room, closing and locking the door to call her.

I called once she didn't answer, understandable. I called again and again until she answered.

On the phone conversation

KaiLani: Hello, Who is this?

I chuckled, not the white girl's voice. Classic black mom/ person move.

Me: It's Darien, Ace's best friend. Hold on! Don't hang up please listen.

KaiLani: You got 4 minutes

Me: Okay, look. I know you're mad at Ace for leaving you and your child then trynna come back into your life. I told him to his face that it was a dick move, but he didn't understand. Listen, My dad did the same thing Ace did but mine didn't want to come back. Ace is trying to make things right and be a strong support system. Ask Ace why he left. Ask him why he couldn't be there. Ask him everything you want to know, please.

If this didn't work I don't know what would've, I'm trying my hardest.

KaiLani: I-I don't know I just don't want him to get Kalias hopes up.

Me: I know because that's not only hurting you but Kalias. Because that turns into a pain that you can't heal. The pain of not having his father is not something that falls on him but you. And that's a pain you can't heal.

KaiLani: Tell him I'll give him a chance, onee chance. He fucks up it's done.

Me: He doesn't know I'm telling you.

KaiLani laughs: okay.

Me: Also, he's going to New York so we can work things out if that's fine.

KaiLani: How the fuck did he know I lived in New York?

Me: We googled you

KaiLani: Can't be mad at it

I chuckled softly: Just know we'll be there either tomorrow or in a few days but I'll text you and let you know when we get there so we can plan a day.

KaiLani: Okay, I'm off tomorrow and the day after that I can't because I have work.

Me: Okay, I'll update Ace and yeah. But I gotta go we can talk later.

We exchanged goodbyes and ended the call. It could've gone worse honestly. All I know is Ace better not fuck this up. He better proceed with caution becuase nigga is on thin ice. He gon fuck around and find out if he keeps playin.
