2.4 John Doe goes fishing

Diana had returned to her appartement to a very terrible smell. She had walked around the small space with an air-freshener, yet it had not been able to masque the sent of death. Only in the afternoon, when she had undressed herself and had begun to prepare supper for herself, she had discovered where the terrible stench had come from.

Sadly, the large grey cat Diana had owned, had passed away. She knew not when for she hadn't seen the beast in more than a week. Of course, it was an old cat. But Diana couldn't help but feel guilty for it. Perhaps if she hadn't spent as much time with Bruce, the cat would still be alive. But it had always had the habit of running off for weeks, Diana could not have known that it had been waiting at the window. For that is where she had found the poor creature. Diana, being as self-absorbed as she was, though not necessarily of it as a bad thing. She now needed not to take care of anyone else but herself. As if she really took good care of the pet.

For this reason, she called two people: the maytens man and Bruce. The maytens man of her building was an old drunk, though sometimes he was sober enough to perform some kind of work. He needed not to be either sober or drunk to fall for Diana's charms. He had taken the cat and promised to bury it for her in the small garden that was positioned behind the building. She needn't know that he threw the corps in the trashes. He had comforted her for she had seen very sad and afterwards he had left swiftly, when he came to understand that she was not in the slightest way of interest in him. And of course, for she had told him she needed some privacy to call her partner, as she called Bruce.

After the tiring day she needed the comfort of his voice, and she couldn't help but long for his body a little too. It was decided, Diana decided that she would be with him, regardless of any secret. Yet under the circumstance that he would tell her one day what he was hiding. She meant to tell him that. And after she had told him of the passing of her cat, which he first of all knew not of excited, he had agreed that she could stay with him for as long as she needed. She had even packed her suitcase, with clothes and paperwork to last for a week. Along with that a gala-dress that she meant to wear that weekend, of course. Perhaps he knew that the cat was just a tool for her to return to him, but she dearly hoped not for the sake of her pride.

She would be taking the bus to Wayne manor. To feel as if she had the slightest of dignity. She did not think of what had happened the day before. She had this terrible need to be satisfied, to be tied down. And who other could satisfy her better than Bruce? He had everything Diana could hope for: intelligence, fair looks, he was a standard of high society and of course a fair amount of money. Even though in the wake of his depression he could be incredibly still, and it would take much strength to help him recover. But she was sure that he could recover, at least.

Never did she doubt that he would have second thoughts on their relationship. She didn't even think about it. she was too busy denying that what Joker knew: she didn't want this life. But it would be good for her. She only thought that she needed to preserve what she had as long as it was there for the taking.

Alfred opened the door for her, she greeted him with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. He offered her to help with her suitcase, but Diana insisted that she'd carry them herself with that that she would help him prepare dinner. Bruce, as usual, came walking down the stairs to greet her, as he noticed her suitcase.

"You brought your suitcase?" he asked her.

Diana looked at her belongings, then up at Bruce, who was now approaching her.

"Well," she said, "I was hoping I could stay with you for a while, if it is convenient".

Bruce said nothing but looked down onto her, he seemed not happy nor sad. He seemed rather suspicious. But still, Diana gave him a kiss, and showed that she was in fact happy. She thought not twice on the reason why she wanted to be there, according to him. He had expected for her to seem sad, or even sober.
