Maddison woke up the next morning, the sun shining in the windows and onto her face. She had her head comfortably on Steve's chest. She could still feel the ache in her core from last night, her ex had been her only partner. And only once, but even for her first time, she knew it wasn't what it should have been. It almost made it comical that she'd gotten pregnant after one subpar sexual experience with a man less than half as blessed as Steve.

It made Maddison wonder, would Steve have even had a 2nd look at her before she'd had Avery? She was a totally different person back then. She was thin, maybe a little too thin for her own good with almost no tits on her. She had glum, dark brunette hair that she usually kept in a bun, no piercings, no tattoos, no life. She was the shy girl, the girl without many friends, the girl from a broken home with an absent dad and a neglectful mom. She was the girl that got kicked out of her moms house at 17 when she refused to sell her grandmother's home when she died, the home she spent her childhood in since her mother couldn't be bothered to raise her. That's when she became the girl in high school that had to work full time to afford bills, it made her even more of a reject. Well, until the popular kids found out she owned her own home and tried to befriend her. She was so excited to have friends, she didn't even question their motives until they invited themselves to a house party, at her house.

Thankfully, Scott saved Maddison from that one. She'd been kicked out of her own party, left to sit on the sidewalk and pray nobody called the cops for underage drinking or a noise complaint. Which was exactly what Scott was going to do, until he saw her upset on the sidewalk. So, instead of calling the cops, Scott stormed into the house. For a happy all the time man, he sure could look angry when he needed to. First thing he'd done when he walked in was smash the stereo someone had brought with a beer bottle, next thing he'd done was shout over all the chaos that everyone had 30 seconds to leave. Scott may not be bulky, but he sure is tall, and he looked pissed. It took less than 10 seconds for her entire house to be empty, trashed, but empty.

Scott even stayed and helped Maddison clean the house, grumbling about underage drinking ruining his blind date the whole time, but he never left. Would Steve had liked that version of her? The version she'd locked away in a box, so tight she'd never see the light of day again. That version of her died when Avery was born, she refused to be that scared timid girl. She refused to let Avery grow up just as afraid of the world as she was. So, she changed just about every single thing about herself. The weight gain was an unfortunate accident, unable to find the time to work out between school, work and being a mom. The tattoos were, in a way, a safe way of self harm after being devastated that her baby's dad didn't want her. The nipple piercings were a spur of the moment decision when her milk supply dried up, again, another safe self harm. And the outgoing personality was so she could actually gain some friends and teach her daughter to be fun and talkative, extroverted. She didn't want Avery to grow up the outcast, face buried in a book without a single friend. Not like that would be a problem now, not with Avery's step-in dad being Captian America himself. Maddison was sure little Avery would have more friends than she knew what to do with when she was old enough to go to school and they found out her dad was a superhero. Well, if he stuck around that long. But her worries about that had started to die down, she believed Steve in his intentions. She believed him when he said she was it for him, that the two of them were all he needed.

When Maddison finally opened her eyes, she realized Steve was already awake. And Avery was also asleep on his chest. How long did she sleep? She let out a little groan, adjusting her head until she could look up at Steve and smile at him. "Morning." She said sleepily.

Steve smiled down at Maddison, one arm wrapped around her waist, the other on Avery's back. "Morning, sleep well?" He asked in that sexy voice he had. She just nodded, fighting off another yawn, she hated waking up in the mornings. "She's got about 20 minutes left of her nap, then how about I get my girls some lunch?" He asked sweetly.

Maddison's eyes shot open, she'd slept half the day away? She didn't have time for that! "You let me sleep all day?" She asked, a little panicked.

Steve shook his head no, handing off her phone. "It's only 11, it's not that late." He defended. As sweet as it was, she could've spent that time studying. Sleep was a luxury she couldn't afford. "Before you argue, you needed it. We both know nothing you would've read would have stuck in your mind. And I had Avery, she's fine." He said in a soothing voice.

Maddison simply nodded, sitting up on her elbow to admire Steve and Avery together. She was sprawled our across as much of his massive chest as she could, the pink pacifier hanging half out of her mouth and her tiny hands clutching onto his tight white t-shirt. She even saw a little slobber by her mouth, getting his crisp shirt wet, but he didn't even look the least bit phased by it. In fact, he looked like he was in heaven as his large hand splayed out across her back, holding her steadily. "When did you two get up?" She asked curiously. Not that she'd question anything Steve did with Avery anymore, he'd more than proven that she was safe with him.

Steve seemed to think about it for a minute, his eyes still locked onto Maddison's. "Probably 6:30. She had a bottle, then we went for a run at sunrise, came home and had some oatmeal and played for a little while. Then she had another bottle and we laid down with you for a nap." He explained. She loved how tuned in he was with Avery's schedule, and he took her running? At sunrise...who runs at sunrise?

"Running? That's a new one for her." Maddison said with a laugh. The only running she did was to catch the subway. Just another reminder that they were very different people.

Steve simply shrugged, smiling down at Maddison. "Then it will be our thing, as often as you'll let me I'll take her on my morning run, let her see the sunrise and have breakfast with my little girl." He said so casually that it made her heart swell.

"At 6:30 in the morning, baby you can have her every day." Maddison said with a laugh. Usually she didn't wake Avery up until 7:30 or 8 AM, but maybe with an earlier wakeup she'd want to go to bed sooner, giving her a little more study time, or Steve time.

Steve let out a quiet laugh, his hand squeezing her waist. "I'll hold you to that." He said quietly.
