** A/N **

I actually don't remember how old Avery is supposed to be. I know she's almost 2 when Steve and Bucky have to go fight Thanos, but I don't remember how far away that is from here 😂
Sorry!!

Steve left straight from the hospital to the road. He had a plan to fix this. He just needed a little help. He needed to call in a favor that wasn't his to call in.

The drive was almost four hours long, making him frustrated and annoyed. He just wanted to get this part done and rush home to his girls. He promised Maddison he'd be home in a few days, sooner if possible, but he would've preferred to he home today.

Pulling up to The Avengers compound felt weird, it didn't feel like home anymore. Maddison felt like home, her and Avery are home.

But Steve let himself into the compound, ignoring the looks from a few of his former team. Well, not so much team. It was only Rhodey, that Spiderman kid, and Tony there it seemed like. Other than that, the place was pretty deserted. "Mr. Roger's, I was informed to warn Mr. Stark if you ever stepped foot on the premises." FRIDAY announced. Steve huffed out a laugh. "Yeah, you do that." He answered.

A few minutes later, Tony showed up out of the elevator. "The hell you doing here, spangles?" He asked.

Steve rolled his eyes at that, putting his hands on his hips. "I'm here for a favor." He insisted.

Tony laughed, crossing his arms across his chest. "I'm sorry, I thought not killing the terminator was already a big enough favor." He remarked.

Steve huffed, tossing the folder with Maddison's summons inside onto he ground in front of him since Tony hated being handed things. "Emilia saved Rhodey's life. Trust me, I didn't want to show up here and remind you of that. But this is important." He insisted. He wasn't leaving here without his help, he refused.

"I don't want to fight you, Cap. But I will if I have to. I have nothing to say to you." Tony said firmly.

Steve sighed, motioning his eyes toward the file. "I will too. And you won't like the outcome without that fancy suit. This is important, Stark." He said even more sternly.

Tony rolled his eyes, but picked up the file and opened it. He read through it for a few minutes before looking at Steve. "So some chick is getting sued by her baby daddy, what of it?" He asked.

Steve huffed, shifting his gaze. "It's not some chick, it's my girlfriend. And it's my daughter he's trying to take from us. I just need your help with this, Stark. Then you'll never have to see me again. But we can't lose our daughter to this rich asshole." He said.

Tony nodded, walking off toward the elevator. "I suggest you follow." He said. Steve was already catching up to him.

Steve unfortunately spent the next several hours with Tony. They sat in his office while he made countless calls to his entire team of fancy lawyers and got his entire team on the case. "So, a kid?" He asked.

Steve sighed, crossing his ankle over his other knee. But he nodded. "Yes, a kid. She's 16 months. Her name is Avery." He said happily. His girls were the only subject he was always more than happy to talk about.

Tony nodded at that, not saying anything at first. "I didn't think it still worked after all those years on the ice." He mentioned casually.

Steve rolled his eyes at that, but he figured the sarcasm was at least a step in the right direction. He didn't want to brag and say he and Bucky both had kids, it seemed wrong to even bring Bucky up. So, he didn't. "It still works." He said instead, feeling awkward for even saying that.

Tony huffed out a laugh, but went back to talking to his lawyers once they were taken off hold. He spoke to them for a while, telling them what little he knew about the situation. Frankly, he didn't want to know more.

By the time Tony had gotten off the phone, Steve had heard him threaten his lawyers at least a dozen different ways. But it worked. "This will be handled before the month is out. There's no way any respectable judge would take a kid away from two loving parents just for some rich asshole. Especially when I'm an ever richer asshole." Tony said when he hung up from his call.

Steve sighed in relief, standing up and offering his hand to Tony. "You have no idea how much this means to me, Tony. Thank you." He said genuinely.

Tony just nodded, but he did shake Steve's hand. "Like you said, the Barnes lady did save Rhodey's life. I owed her something. Now she can never show up demanding some stupid favor." He said. But it wasn't true. He wasn't mad at Emilia, not even close.

Steve rolled his eyes, pulling his hand back once they'd broken their shake. "Her name is Emilia. And she's one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life, you'd adore her if you gave her a chance. But she doesn't need your help. She had a good job, Bucky treats her well, she had all the money she could need, and they have two babies on the way. Their life is good." He explained.

Tony wasn't sure what emotion he felt to hear that Bucky and Emilia's life was going so well. Jealously maybe? But he pushed it down. "That's... great." He said as flatly as he could manage. "Pepper and I got back together." He countered with.

Steve smiled a little at that, feeling like their friendship might be able to be mended after all. He just wasn't sure how and he wasn't willing to stay so far away from his girls to figure it out. "That's great, Tony. Don't wait to get her a ring, she deserves it." He said.

Tony huffed a laugh at that, rounding his desk and heading toward the exit with Steve walking beside him. "Isn't being with me prize enough?" He said sarcastically.

Steve gave Tony a half man-hug and rolled his eyes at his former friend. "That's why she deserves one." He countered.

The two shared a short goodbye before Steve headed out in Maddison's SUV. He was more than ready to get back to his girls. But he was hoping Maddison was asleep when he got home, she needed it.
