Going Home

Sunday 7th June 1992

Luckily, Harry made a full recovery in time for the end of year feast.

"Another year gone" Dumbledore says.

"And I must trouble you with an old man's wheezing waffle before we sink our teeth into our delicious feast. What a year it has been! Hopefully your heads are all a little fuller than they were ... you have the whole summer ahead to get them nice and empty before next year starts."

'Now, as I understand it, the House Cup here needs awarding and the points stand thus: in fourth place, Gryffindor, with three hundred and twelve points; in third, Hufflepuff, with three hun- dred and fifty-two; Ravenclaw have four hundred and twenty-six and Slytherin, four hundred and seventy-two.'

Yes! We won! A crowd of cheers from my house table erupts as everyone in Slytherin celebrates our victory.

'Yes, yes, well done, Slytherin,' Dumbledore Says.

'However, recent events must be taken into account. I have a few last-minute points to dish out. Let me see. First to Mr Ronald Weasley, for the best played game of chess Hogwarts has seen in many years, I award Gryffindor house fifty points.'

"Second, to Miss Hermione Granger, for the use of cool logic in the face of fire, I award Gryffindor house fifty points."

"Third, to Mr Harry Potter, for pure nerve and outstanding courage, I award Gryffindor house sixty points."

Great, now we're tied with Gryffindoor.

"There are all kinds of courage. It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr Neville Longbottom.'

Which means, we need a little change of decoration.'
He claps his had and the green and silver decorations turn to red and gold.

Typical! Slytherin win the house cup and suddenly a bunch of Gryffindoors earn points.

"That's so unfair!" Edith yells over the roar of applause.

"It's fine, maybe next year." I say to her.

Besides Gryffindoors obviously unfair win, the end of term feast is great fun, and me and Edith enjoy ourselves.

The less fun bit, is having to go home.

Me, Edith, Seamus, Dean and Neville all sit in an empty carriage together.

"Promise me you'll write?" Edith says.

"I promise! I'm not just gonna forget about my bestfriend for six weeks am I?" I reply.

"It's gonna be hell on earth to spend that much time with my parents." Edith pouts.

"Yeah I don't blame you. Maybe you can come visit me?"

"I'd love to!" There's no way I'm gonna be able to survive six weeks away from Hogwarts, but I suppose I'll try to.

It makes me wonder how I used to live life before, without magic.
