Wanderer decided to follow Nahida's orders, and simply observe the situation. Silently following Gon and Kurapika as they chased after the monster he hit inside the forest. They eventually rescued the wife, thanks to Gon, who kicked the Kiriko, letting Kurapika catch her.
Kurapika stayed behind with her as Gon chased after the escaping Kiriko once more.
Wanderer was about to leave, when he saw another Kiriko come out and switched places with the one Gon was chasing.
Oh? It seems Nahida was right. He remembered what she mouthed back in the cabin.
'See if there's another Kiriko.'
Whatever theory she's making inside her head, seems to be correct. Wanderer watched the Kiriko he hit shapeshift into Leorio's form and approach Kurapika.
Wanderer hid in a tree, watching Kurapika frown at 'Leorio.' Safely holding the wife in his arms.
"Is that man alright?"
'Leorio' nodded.
"Yeah, he lost a bit of blood. But he's stable now. How's the girl-"
'Twack!' Kurapika's wooden swords slammed straight onto the being's nose, 'Leorio' stumbled back while clutching his face. His shoulders shook as it chuckled.
"How did you tell? I made sure my disguise was perfect."
Kurapika smoothly caught his sword, and nonchalantly glanced back at the Kiriko.
"Simple, Leorio isn't dumb enough to leave an injured man alone. Second, leaving a possible victim behind. While the perpetrator could come back is idiotic. Even for Leorio. Third, where is Nahida?”
With a short laugh, the Kiriko walked back before running off. Instead of chasing after it, Kurapika placed his sword against the woman's throat. She flinched and looked at him in shock.
"Now.” Their eyes met. “Who are you?"
Wanderer didn't stay to see her response. But he saw the grin that twisted her face. He hurried after the new Kiriko. Flying faster than it could run and cut off its movements by landing right before it.
It grinded to a halt, watching him from the tree branch, while Wanderer stood on another one.
Wanderer raised his head, tilted it and placed a hand on his hip.
"Two, hmm? Are you the real husband and wife?"
The Kiriko grinned mischievously.
"Kekekeke, wouldn't you like to know?"
-
Nahida smiled gently at the 'husband' while Leorio stood guard on the window that Kiriko escaped from.
"Hey."
The blue haired man lifted his gaze at her. The worry inside his eyes almost made her believe him. But she couldn't be sure if he was trustworthy.
"What exactly is a Kiriko?"
He blinked at her question, and clutched his injured arm while talking.
"A Kiriko, is a magical beast that can change its physical appearance. Mimicking another human in physical attributes and even their voice."
Nahida hummed at his explanation.
"Then, the human you're imitating-"
She watched his worried expression change to confusion.
"What kind of person was he?"
He paused for just a moment. "... I, am not sure what you mean-"
"Is it possible to make a completely new, and original design for you to disguise yourself as?"
