Ei stepped inside the desolate base. Nothing but blood greeted her. She frowned and glanced at the black chair splattered with the crimson liquid.
These things killed fast, and many. She followed the scattered lines of blood where bodies were dragged through.
Only to find a large pool of blood and discarded pieces of clothing. She kept investigating, but could only find even more objects left behind.
Where did all the people here go? What is even capable of moving so many bodies in such a short amount of time...?
If it inherits body parts from any creature, then... Ei looked up at the sky.
Finding the nest just got even more difficult... She shouldn't have killed those ants so fast... Regardless, Ei jumped above a tree, and looked around. She chose a random location, where she could see tall mountains and hurried across the trees in a straight line.

Wanderer held Nahida in his arms while standing beside Kite. Who held his arms and gazed down at the puddle of blood and scraps of clothing left on the ground with a single, orange shoe discarded beside a yellow, round hat.
Gon checked his fist so hard it trembled in place. Recognizing that hat... Killua lifted the metal piece he found nearby. "A bullet casing...?"
"Wasn't metal prohibited?" Gon turned to him, but Killua just read the numbers engraved in the casing.
"It seems the NGL underground also manufactured weapons. Not just drugs." Kite glanced at Nahida, but his worries at her reaction vanished when her steady gaze simply observed the bloody scene before them.
"Yeah but..." Killua lowered the casing and frowned at the red chunks left inside the blood.
"This person was eaten." Nahida gripped onto Wanderer's shoulder. "I thought only the Queen ate, to reproduce..."
"Normally so." Kite face seemed the same. "But it seems that this generation of worker ants have been influenced by a set of human brains. She may be losing control, or they're growing independent."
Killua and Gon frowned while hearing them speak. They glanced at each other.
"If my instincts are right, and they're using weapons now... The underground leaders have already been fed to the Queen."
Nahida chimed in, voice steady even while her eyes trembled. "If they inherit human intelligence, doesn't that mean they will start developing weapons?"
"The weapons aren't my biggest fear." Kite turned and signalled for them to follow them. "I'm afraid our battle will be much harder, should they learn Nen."
When he ran, everyone quickly followed him through the forest.
"The ants most likely have control of the NGL now. We need to find the nest before the Queen births the King."
Nahida's heart jumped in her chest with each second. "Kite, there's something I should tell you."
"Can it wait?"
"No. It can't, I think it has to do with the ants, and that bad feeling I'm sure you've had ever since we arrived here."
Kite didn't stop or look back. "Can you say it while we run?"
"I can." Wanderer flew faster and reached Kite's side. To their surprise, Kite reached his hands out for Nahida. Ready to catch her...
She leaned down and grabbed his arms, Wanderer helped her reach him and land safely on his shoulder. Then he moved back, floating beside the kids.
