The boat ride was silent, Kite just stared ahead and waited for them to reach a distant island. Wanderer frowned at him, watching in case of another chase sequence. Nahida found his weariness amusing, and perhaps Kite did as well by the way he lowered his hat to hide his expression.

For three hours, Nahida could only see the distant ocean. So when she spotted green, her smile blossomed. They were closer now, but still far. Still, Kite's analysis worried her.

"Like Netero said.” Kite's hair moved with the wind. The length reminded Wanderer of Columbina.

“Nen depends on your own efforts." Kite didn't glance back at them.

"From what I can see, it's possible, but unlikely for either of you to learn it. I'll explain more once we arrive."

Wanderer discreetly flipped him off with Nahida slapping his hand down. But she decided to play nice and stayed silent during the boat ride.

But now, with the island and forest so close... "Sir Kite."

He hummed but didn't turn to her. "Is there a reason for why you are working with the Kakin Empire?"

She figured that as a hunter, Kite had a hidden agenda to be investigating species for the government.

Maybe money, but Netero seemed to think highly of him. There has to be something else.

"A reason, I guess so." He finally glanced at her. "Just like humans, animals and insects can evolve. Since the Kakin Empire is so close to the Dark Continent, my job is to make sure any threats are eliminated before it's too late."

He noticed Nahida's interest and turned back to gaze in front. "But, I'm also interested in biology. There's nothing else."

Kite jumped out of the boat before Nahida could ask any more.

She kept her questions and watched Wanderer follow him out before he turned and picked her up.

He placed her down on the sand while Kite walked ahead. It was warm on Nahida's feet. Reminding her of the desert.

Wanderer followed after Kite, but Nahida stayed behind for a minute to look around. The wind suddenly picked up, and her ears were filled with the symphony of rustling leaves.

With a deep breath, she continued after them. Nahida walked beside Wanderer, and they saw Kite stop walking. Wanderer frowned at the thing in front of Kite.

Nahida blinked at the, giant crab before them. They stopped beside Kite and observed the crab pinch its claws twice, seemingly in greeting.

Wanderer raised a brow at it, getting reminded of Fontaine and its red crabs. Those things always ran away from him when he was the Balladeer.

It looked so funny while hurrying away too...

Kite walked to the crab, who stood still, and gently gestured for it to approach them.

"A good hunter is loved by animals. That's one of my requirements to know who should be a hunter."

At his words, the crab turned to them. It blinked at Wanderer and seemed to ignore him. Choosing to look at Nahida, it clapped its claws happily. It even seemed to be smiling...

Kite hummed at the reaction before looking at Wanderer. Who frowned at his gaze.

"Interesting..."

When Nahida smiled at the crab, it smiled back even wider with closed eyes. She grabbed Wanderer's arm and pulled him towards it.

The crab stopped its claws from pinching, and stared at him. Wanderer felt Nahida tug him down, and knelt on the ground.

She turned his head towards the crab, and used two of her fingers to pull his lips up and to the side.
