"Did your beloved Joanna send you?" Ellaria mockingly asked her former lover.
Oberyn let the guards close the door behind him. His gaze slowly shifted to Ellaria, who had a grin on her face. He was amazed that even in such conditions she was able to be so completely on top of things, as if only a few hours ago she had not begged him not to lock her up here. It had barely been twelve hours since she had been locked up there, but she still didn't seem (at least not to him) that it had marked her in any way.
He sniffed, a disgusted grimace taking over his face when he saw her, when he heard her... his hand automatically flew to his belt, specifically the dagger he had attached to it. Did he have a choice with the decision he was going to make? He had already sent his men to bring Loreza to the palace.
Anyway, he didn't answer her question.
"No, she sent you," Ellaria answered the question herself. She even nodded in agreement.
Oberyn pursed his lips and ran his fingertips lightly over the dagger. He stepped closer to Ellaria and narrowed his eyes as he stopped a short distance in front of her. Ellaria stood up from the ground and took two steps forward to close the distance between them.
He suddenly felt her touch on his chest, lowered his head and looked at her hand, but the effort in him to take her hand away was simply not there. He let her touch him.
"Nobody sent me. I haven't even been with Joanna since she left from here if you care so much about it."
Ellaria raised an eyebrow and caressed the naked part exposed by his tunic. Oberyn gritted his teeth at that moment, his gaze darkened.
"Then why are you here? Did you come to apologize and set me free? Admit that you made a mistake and want me back as your lover. It could still work, you know? The relationship with the three of us. Or not, Joanna wouldn't have to know about anything."
"Ellaria..." he sighed, grabbing her hand, and pulling it away from his chest. He didn't like where their conversation was going. After all, he couldn't care less when he planned to do what he wanted.
"It would never work. Joanna despises you; you despise Joanna. You tried to kill her; you sent her a death threat. And yet you think that it could work between us again or lead to a threesome kind of relationship. And I'm not even going to remind you of the fact that if Tyene managed to kill Joanna, she would somehow manage to kill my child as well. Do you really think I would forgive you after all of this?"
He tilted his head to the side. Ellaria was able to convince him more and more with each conversation that she was desperate and couldn't get over the fact that there would never be anything between the two of them again. He didn't know how else he should explain it to her because she was adamant and still thought she had a chance with him. And honestly? He was tired of it. He was already tired of her.
"It would work if you wanted it yourself. If you would talk to Joanna. If she had wanted it from the beginning, none of this would have happened. None of this would happen, don't you understand? But no, you didn't even try to convince her. You just stood there, drooling behind her. And you pushed me aside. You turned me into a toy you're already tired of!" she raised her voice.
Oberyn ran one hand over the other. He didn't miss how Ellaria's gaze slid to the dagger at his side.
"You came to kill me, didn't you? That's what you're here for, am I right?"
And he didn't answer her again. Usually, he had a lot on his tongue; he had a lot on his mind, but suddenly he couldn't answer her. It was as if he had forgotten all the words he knew. What was he supposed to answer to her? Yes, Ellaria, I have come to assassinate you, would that be enough of an answer for her? He had always been honest with her, so what had gone wrong? Was there some kind of compassion, some kind of love that resulted in this?
