Bandit Camp

Weiss awoke to the cold, metallic sensation of a cage floor beneath her. Her head throbbed painfully, and as she raised a hand to her temple, she realized her wrists were tightly bound with rough rope. She winced, blinking away the haze clouding her vision, and tried to make sense of her surroundings. Slowly, the memories flooded back.

She had been escaping Atlas, fleeing from her father, Jacques Schnee, determined to make her way to Mistral to reunite with her sister, Winter Schnee. But her journey had taken a disastrous turn. The cargo airship she had boarded was attacked by Grimm mid-flight. They had barely managed to keep the ship aloft before crashing into the wilderness. In the chaos, she was captured by bandits. And now, here she was, locked in a cage.

Weiss's sharp blue eyes scanned the area. Two bandits stood guard nearby, engaged in a hushed conversation about the Atlas military. She tuned them out, uninterested in their prattle. She needed to focus on escaping.

As she shifted slightly, trying to sit up, one of the bandits noticed her movement. He grinned at her, revealing a mouth full of yellowed teeth.

"Well, well, well! Look who's awake," he sneered.

Weiss's head still pounded, but she managed to glare at the man. "What's going on...? Where—?" she began, only to be interrupted by a voice from the shadows.

"Good morning, Princess."

Weiss turned her head sharply to see a figure emerge from the corner of the camp. The two guards immediately snapped to attention, their previous smugness replaced by a mix of fear and respect.

"V-Vernal!" one of them stammered, clearly nervous.

'Vernal?' Weiss thought, committing the name to memory as her eyes locked onto the newcomer—a tomboyish woman with a confident stride. Vernal held Weiss's Myrtenaster, inspecting the rapier with a curious smirk.

"I never would've thought I'd see a Schnee in this camp," Vernal said, her voice dripping with amusement as she continued to examine Weiss's weapon.

Weiss's expression hardened. "What do you want?" she asked bluntly, unwilling to play along with whatever game this woman was planning.

Vernal chuckled at Weiss's straightforwardness. "Straight to the point, huh? I like it." She casually swung Myrtenaster over her shoulder like a baseball bat, the blade glinting in the light. "We don't usually bother with trafficking people. Not really worth our time... But when we realized who you were—a Schnee—well, that changed things."

Weiss's eyes narrowed, her suspicion confirmed. "You're going to ransom me back to my father. Is that it?"

Vernal's smile widened at the accusation, a wicked gleam in her eye. "It's a shame you're a Schnee. You might do well around here if you weren't."

Weiss scoffed, stepping closer to the bars of her cage. "I would never sink to your level."

Vernal's smile faded slightly, irritation flickering across her features. "Just keep quiet and cooperate, and you'll be back in your mansion before you know it. Don't make things more complicated than they need to be."

Weiss wasn't fazed. "Things will get a lot more complicated when my sister finds out I didn't make it to Mistral. You know my sister, Winter Schnee? Special operative from the Atlas military? If she finds out I'm missing, it won't take her long to track me down... and you."

Her threat hung in the air, but to her surprise, the two bandits burst into laughter, their guffaws echoing through the camp.

Weiss's brow furrowed in confusion. "What's so funny?" she demanded, glaring at the laughing men.
