Mistral, 8 AM, Sasuke
It had been a busy week for Sasuke. He had spent the last few days training Oscar, with Ruby occasionally joining their sessions. He was impressed by Oscar’s significant growth; the boy was learning faster than he had anticipated. Sasuke had focused primarily on teaching him hand-to-hand combat, pushing Oscar to his limits to hone his reflexes and defensive skills.
They were now sparring in the woods where they usually trained—a quiet, secluded spot surrounded by towering trees and a cool morning breeze. Ruby and Yang were watching the fight from a safe distance, their eyes tracking every move.
“HYAA!” Oscar shouted, charging at Sasuke with a determined expression. Sasuke made a defensive pose, waiting patiently for Oscar's approach.
“Hgh!” Oscar unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks, each one aimed with intent. But Sasuke’s reaction time was incredible; he dodged each strike with fluid grace, his movements almost a blur.
Seeing an opening, Sasuke moved to deliver a punch to Oscar's gut. To everyone’s surprise, Oscar blocked it with his palm. Sasuke allowed a small smile to form on his lips, acknowledging Oscar’s improvement. Without missing a beat, Sasuke shifted his stance and delivered a swift kick to Oscar’s waist.
“Oof!” Oscar grunted as he was sent flying a few feet back. He landed with his hands, executing a back handspring to regain his footing. He landed perfectly, prompting a nod of approval from Sasuke.
‘He’s improving faster than I expected,’ Sasuke thought, impressed.
“Well then, let’s see how you handle this,” Sasuke said, stretching his shoulders. In a blink, he closed the distance between them, appearing directly in front of Oscar and landing a punch squarely on his face.
‘What was I supposed to do there?’ Oscar thought, reeling from the impact. Sasuke was too fast, too unpredictable.
‘Focus more on defense, my dear,’ Ozpin's voice echoed in Oscar's mind, guiding him.
Oscar backed off, dodging some of Sasuke’s punches. But Sasuke’s relentless attacks soon overwhelmed him. The few hits that landed were softened by his aura, but Oscar could feel his energy waning.
As soon as Oscar's aura shattered, signaling its depletion, Sasuke's next punch halted an inch from Oscar's face. Sasuke then lowered his fist and extended a hand to Oscar.
“You did well this time,” Sasuke said, his tone neutral, as always.
“You really think so? Felt more like I was a punching bag—haha,” Oscar joked, scratching the back of his head.
“Remember this, Oscar: the greatest defense is a good offense. On the battlefield, you must be ruthless to win,” Sasuke said, patting the dirt off his coat.
“But... being ruthless isn’t really my thing. It’s just that—” Oscar began, only for Sasuke to cut him off.
“Being ruthless on the battlefield works most of the time. What I'm teaching isn't just about fighting; it's about winning those fights. A single moment of hesitation can cost you your life.” With that, Sasuke turned and walked away, leaving Oscar to ponder his words.
Oscar looked down at his dusty, calloused hands. He clenched them into fists, a look of determination settling on his face. Sasuke had once again ignited a fire within him, driving him to improve.
“Heh, that was a bit harsh,” Yang commented, watching the exchange between Sasuke and Oscar.
“Oh, please,” Sasuke replied nonchalantly, taking a swig from his water bottle.
