41 - Aftermath

Dream State

'What a pain... I did it again...'

Sasuke drifted in a dreamlike state, feeling as though he was submerged underwater. The sensation was oddly calming, a stark contrast to the chaos he knew was unfolding around him.

'I passed out... Damn it...'

His eyes fluttered open, his gaze landing on his palms. Everything felt strangely at ease—his mind, his body, and most curiously, his soul.

'I should be worried... Everyone’s out there, fighting to prevent a war... to stop meaningless deaths. Then why...'

He clenched his fists, a small act of defiance against the calm that settled over him.

'Why do I feel so relaxed right now?'

Images of his family's faces flashed through his mind, followed by memories of his teammates and friends. His breath caught in his throat when Weiss' face appeared, clear and vivid.

'Right... I have them...'

His clenched fists slowly relaxed as a wave of calm washed over him.

'I trust them... They will win.'

With that thought, he closed his eyes again, feeling a surge of energy—a mixture of chakra and aura—filling his chest, spreading warmth from his heart. He could feel himself waking up. It was a little cold, but he was no stranger to discomfort.

Mistral Hospital

Sasuke's eyes begin to open. He squints his eye because the room is bathed in a shining light.

He lets out a small groan.

"Hnggh.."

He observed his surroundings, he seemed to be in a hospital room. He then turned his gaze to whoever was holding his hand. It was Yang.

Yang upon hearing a groan, opened her eyes to look at her younger brother.

"S-sasuke!"

"Yang.. Ughh..!"

Sasuke held his palm to his head as he was feeling a minor headache.

"How are you feeling?"

"Fine.. The relic-! Did you get it?"

"..."

Yang melancholy gazed down.

"We.. we almost had it. We were so close! Mom's in a coma and I was too weak to stop HIM!- I-"

"Yang.."

Yang felt Sasuke's palm on her arm. She was beginning to break down as tears fell from her cheeks. She then hugged Sasuke. Her little brother embraced her; she's a family after all.

All the bottled-up emotions Yang was hiding exploded in front of Sasuke. Like a cup overflowing with too much water.

"Everything was going very alright when Beacon was still standing.. Now suddenly, everything is getting worse. It's- *gasp* it's s-so unfair.. *sobs*"

"..I know." he murmured, holding her close.

Salem's Domain

Salem at her balcony, admiring the horizon whilst drinking her typical red wine.

"It wasn't so hard now, was it?" Salem spoke her words to someone behind the doors.

The doors opened to see Watts holding the Relic. He bowed in front of his Queen and placed the lamp Relic on the table. Behind him were Tyrian, Hazel, bruised-up Mercury, and Emerald.
