Atlas, Ironwood's Office, Evening
General Ironwood sat at his desk, the weight of Atlas' future pressing heavily on his shoulders. The soft glow of the dim lights cast long shadows across the room, illuminating the papers spread before him. Winter Schnee stood nearby, her posture formal and focused as she assisted him with the endless reports and strategies that needed his attention.
Winter glanced up from the document she was reviewing. "General, I've finalized the report on the current Mantle patrols. I'll need your approval before it's sent out."
Ironwood, his brow furrowed, nodded absently. He reached for the report, his eyes scanning the pages, though his thoughts were clearly elsewhere. The looming threat of Salem and the importance of Amity Tower weighed heavily on him.
As Winter handed him another paper, the stillness of the room was interrupted by the sudden beep of Ironwood's communicator. His eyes narrowed as he set down the report, and with a swipe of his hand, he activated the device. The holographic screen lit up, showing the face of one of his men.
"General Ironwood, sir!" the soldier said, his voice steady but carrying a note of excitement. "We have a report from the scientists working on Amity Tower. It's... officially completed, sir."
Ironwood's hand froze, his eyes widening slightly. He straightened in his chair, a rare glimmer of hope sparking in his usually hardened expression. "Repeat that," he ordered, his voice controlled but laced with anticipation.
The soldier cleared his throat. "Yes, sir. The scientists confirmed it just moments ago. Amity Tower is fully operational and ready for the next phase. All systems are functioning as expected."
Ironwood leaned back in his chair, allowing the news to settle in. Amity Tower is the key to uniting the world and warning them about Salem. This was the breakthrough they needed.
"Good work. Have the teams begin immediate preparations for the next stage," Ironwood replied, his tone now commanding but with a trace of relief.
"Yes, sir. I'll relay the orders right away," the soldier responded before the call ended, the holographic screen flickering off.
Winter, who had been standing silently beside the desk, allowed herself a small smile. "This is a significant step forward, General. Amity Tower... it will allow us to reach the entire world."
Ironwood nodded, his expression still serious but with a newfound energy. "It's more than a step forward, Winter. It's hope. For Atlas. For Remnant." He looked up at her, his eyes resolute. "This is the beginning of our stand against Salem. We can't afford to falter now."
Winter, her gaze steady, gave a firm nod. "Of course, General. I'll ensure the necessary preparations are in place."
Ironwood exhaled, his thoughts already turning to the challenges ahead. "We've crossed one hurdle, but we have a long way to go." He paused, glancing back at the papers on his desk. "Let's finish up here. There's still much to be done."
Winter returned to her work, the faint sound of paper shuffling filling the room once more. But now, amidst the tension and responsibility, there was a small glimmer of optimism.
Amity Tower
The vast control room of Amity Tower buzzed with a quiet hum of machinery and electronics. Monitors flickered, showing various schematics, diagnostics, and feeds from the tower's systems. Pietro Polendina sat in his wheelchair, his fingers deftly typing commands into the console as he oversaw the final moments of the tower's activation. Beside him, Maria Calavera adjusted some of the mechanical components, her sharp eyes scanning over every detail.
