You were in bed with Jennie when Harvey sent you the itinerary to your flight back to Los Angeles. You barely read the subject line of the email before you promptly shut off your phone and brought your attention back to whatever Jennie was babbling about in her exhausted state.
"...Lisa ate the cookie I wanted and — "
"What?" you asked, snapping out of your thoughts.
Jennie glanced up at you from where she laid her head in your lap, giving you a pout because you weren't paying attention. "Why aren't you listening?"
"Sorry," you murmured, using your fingers to brush her cheek with a light touch. "I was checking my emails."
She reached a hand up to grab yours that was holding her cheek, and turned her head to kiss the base of your palm. "You've been so out of it lately. Is everything okay?"
You shook your head but gave her a small smile to assure that it was nothing too serious.
Her brows furrowed worriedly anyway. "What's wrong?" She almost sat up but you quickly nudged her back down.
You drew in a deep breath as your hand went back to stroking her jawline and cheek. "Harvey is really pushing me to go back."
Jennie slowly nodded, fully understanding but you could still recognize the dissatisfaction on her face.
Your hand trembled and Jennie pressed it against her cheek harder.
"It's okay," she whispered. "We still have time."
You tilted your head back to look up at the ceiling for a moment. "He already booked my flight. I guess the label has been waiting for me to get back for a while now."
Her eyes got a little sad at that. "When?"
"End of the month," you murmured. "Little less than two weeks."
"I see."
You sighed again. "Harvey's... stubborn. I said if he booked the flight I wouldn't show up but he started threatening me about breaching my contract or something."
Jennie's eyebrow quirked. "Would he really...?"
You puffed out a breath. "I dunno," you answered. "I doubt he'd sue me but... he can be unpredictable."
She hummed in understanding. "Have you talked to Rory about it?"
You froze. "Crap," you cursed under your breath. Pressing a hand to your forehead in mild distress, you mentally scolded yourself. "I haven't been texting her and we've been missing each other's calls the last few days."
Jennie gave you a sympathetic smile. "Try calling her now then."
"Do you think she's awake?"
She lolled her head side to side in contemplation. "It's a little early over there," she murmured. "Just try anyway. I'll be outside." Without another word, Jennie sat up, giving you an encouraging kiss on the lips before she made her way out of the room.
You wouldn't have minded if she had stayed, but you appreciated how considerate Jennie was to give you privacy, whether you needed it or not.
Rory didn't end up answering your call though, so you left her a text that said to call back whenever she was available. And then you were climbing out of bed to find where Jennie had gone.
"That was quick," Jennie quipped, glancing at you from her spot on the couch.
"No answer." You reached the back of the couch and leaned over it to nuzzle Jennie from behind, your arms hugging her and your lips kissing into her pillowy cheek. "I miss you."
