"You wouldn't get it," you argued tiredly.
"Okay," Rory accepted, throwing back yet another shot and slamming the glass onto the bar top. "Explain it to me then."
Your ever faithful friend, and current favorite person on the planet, Rory flew all the way to Korea as soon as you called her back that night. The first thing you two did? Found the nearest bar.
You shrugged to yourself, slumping down in your seat. "Is it bad that..."
"What?"
"Well, besides the obvious - "
"- Which is...?"
"Not so obvious then," you muttered into your cup. "Besides what Jennie did, I..." You bit on your tongue, unsure if this was something you wanted to admit out loud. "I don't feel all that happy now that it's fixed."
"What do you mean?"
You pinched the bridge of your nose, the thoughts flying in your head were making you dizzy. "I'm going to ask you something and I want you to be really honest with me."
"Yeah," she breathed. "Promise."
"Do you see me and Jennie ever going public?"
Rory went silent again and that was when you got your answer. She knew exactly where you were going with this. "Oh, kid..."
"We talked about it, you know?" you said into the air, looking at the ceiling. "She said that if it came out, we'd leave it. Wouldn't deny it, wouldn't confirm. We'd just be and continue on. And if people really found out, then they would and we'd be happy with it either way."
God, if that didn't leave Rory speechless, she didn't know what would.
You give her this pitiful smile, eyes hazy and your mind a little clouded. "She shines for the entire world. Everyone's always putting her down, but I would make her brighter."
"That's just about the most tragic thing I've ever heard you say," Rory sighed and it made you both laugh with melancholy.
"So," you drew in a shaky breath and let out a bitter laugh, "is it bad that I didn't want Arin to fix this? Because it might've been my only shot at getting to be with Jennie for real."
"You are with her for real," Rory pointed out.
"You know what I mean," you muttered.
"Yes," she answered a little slurred. "And no."
"What?"
Rory paused for a long while, contemplating her words. Or maybe just trying to formulate thoughts through her drunken haze. "I think you should be more understanding of her position."
"I am understanding," you uttered, brows creasing.
"No, I - " Rory sighed. "More understanding then. I get that you want more from her but, really what is she supposed to do? It's her career. It's her life."
"I know."
"I'm just saying," she added lightly. "She left home to be a trainee when she was just a kid. This life is all she's ever really known. But if you say you love her, Y/n, like actually, seriously, love her? I think you'd want to be with her in any way you can."
"I don't know anymore," you mumbled.
"She loves you too."
"Does she?"
"You think differently?"
You sighed. "She's never said it, or - "
Rory sighed too. "She doesn't need to say it for it to be true, Y/n. Everyone sees it."
