Chapter 15

Tomlin

Thursday 10:55 pm

When I got home I refused to give my dad the time. I wasn't going anywhere. I was finally back home in California where I belonged going to senior year with my friends from grade school. My dad and I have been here for two years and I'm not moving again.

Anywhere.

Someone knocked on my bedroom window. I rolled my eyes. My friends were morons. I let them in and scowled at them.

"What are you idiots doing here?" I crossed my arms on my chest.

"We brought goodies and good music." Andrew held up a bag of edibles and turned on a new playlist on my surround sound.

"The band is called Our Last Night and all they do is rock covers. It's pretty good." Dylan grabbed me into a hug.

"You've been quiet today bestie. You're spending all your time with the guys lately. I even saw you in the car with one of them at Wendy's. It looked like a date." Andrew complained.

I snorted. "Yeah right. He was--we were--that is, you know what." I wagged a finger and laughed.

"To be honest we were chatting like the queen's we are. Green eyes and I are like bottom sisters." I told them with my chin out. "I'm not trying to out anyone. But he is a little confused about his sexuality and I was just listening to him."

Andrew shook his head. "The life coach shit again?" He raised his eyebrows at me.

"Babes, this shits gonna get you in trouble one of these days."

I giggled. "I know. I can't wait either."

They were both laying down on my bed and I laid down between them. "Alexa, Lights off!" I yelled to my robot box I liked to call her.

"Good night, idiots."

"Goodnight, Gus."

I went to bed with a locked door and went to school Friday by crawling out my window with the boys and walking just to avoid my dad. I was really worried he was going to say I had to move.

I was glad my besties spent the night. I didn't have time to think about the 4 nerds.

Friday

Lunch time 12:10pm

Today I wore my black converse and light gray skinny jeans with a pink t-shirt. I felt good until now. Now sitting here eating lunch with Tessa, Dylan, Andrew and a few others I wanted to be wearing black or school colors like them. It was Friday and a rally day and I had to wear pink to match my math club buddies.

I was staring at the table of the 4 jugheads who all looked extra sad for some reason today when my phone rang. I answered it without checking to see who it was. I continued to stare at the boys who were as big as men and wondered what the fuck those two weeks in that mansion really did to them.

"Yello?"

"You are avoiding me." My father sounded like a dying bird there for a second.

"How astute of you father? I'm not ready to move again and I don't care who moves in with us. It's senior year and I'm not going anywhere."

"Oh, is that why you are avoiding me?" He chuckled at me as I put a piece of string cheese in my mouth.

"Nah, I wouldn't do that, Tomlin. You've worked too hard at this school to be who you are, son. I understand."
