Chapter 17
~Destani Smith~
I didn't know this was the day everything goes sour. I hated this feeling; the feeling that your whole entire life was over.
Dustin was just pulling me away from the lunch crowd. I saw Nick's face as I passed by and he looked... sympathetic. I should've never blackmailed him because now I know how it feels to have someone know your little secret.
"C'mon honey," he said, leading us into the school building even though we weren't allowed in here during lunch time.
I was trying to wipe my eyes but that didn't stop the tears from continuously falling down my cheeks. Dustin was rubbing my back in a circular motion, like my mother does.
"It's okay," he said in a soothing voice. It wasn't okay though and some part of him must know that.
"It's not!" I screamed."It wasn't supposed to happen like this!" I don't when I was going to come out to my family but I wasn't ready. Now Keisha was going to tell my parents about my sexuality and...
I groaned aloud and stomped my feet like a child at the thought of the possibility.
"Maybe this isn't such a bad thing, Destani," Dustin said, trying to look at the glass half full.
I shook my head,"My parents are so religious. You don't even know!" I kicked the air in anger and ran my hand through my hair. I put my back against someone's locker.
"Destani," Maya said. I looking to my left and saw Maya approaching us in the empty hallway. I openly embraced her because I wanted her. She hugged me tighter. I pulled away and grabbed her face before crashing my lips onto hers. She withdrew from the kiss watching me with a concerned on her face."You're just scared right now, Destani."
I nodded,"I just need something to take my mind off of it."
"What are you going to do? That's why you were scared... because you think your sister is going to tell your parents about your sexuality?"
I nodded,"I don't know what I'm going to say to her or what I'm going to say to my parents if she tells them." I shook my head.
"Hey!" we all looked down the hallway to see the resources officer heading our way.
"Where are you supposed to be?" he asked once he reached us.
"Lunch," Dustin said.
"Why aren't you there now?" he asked rudely.
"Sorry, we had a situation," I said.
"I don't care. You can have your 'situation' outside," he said."You aren't supposed to be in here!"
I rolled my eyes. Some people are so annoying.
"Alright," I said, making my attitude noticeable.
I grabbed Maya and Dustin before walking out the double doors of the school. The officer followed us all the way there to make sure we left the building which is just the definition of unnecessary.
The lunch table was still the same when we returned. I looked around but I couldn't see my sister.
"She left," Nina said."I think she took a phone call." I sighed. She was probably talking to my parents and if she went into the building maybe the officer will catch her and tell her to go outside, distracting her from the conversation but that's by a long shot. She probably went through the other door of the gigantic school building.
Maybe this was a sign that I have to come out to my parents. I couldn't hide my sexuality from them forever. I'm 16 years old and in two years I would be a legal adult, I can't be scared of my parents all of the time.
