Chapter 1

I had to prove that I was responsible to my parents. I told them I would watch my little brother, Edward, he was eight years old and he was a nuisance.

We moved to Wisconsin a few weeks ago, right in the middle of the summer. My dad got a new job, which apparently pays so much that we had to move from our cozy home in Florida to Wisconsin.

I had an eighteen year old sister and she was starting her Senior year. She just turned eighteen and she doesn't plan on doing anything after graduation.

I'm 16 and I'm starting my Junior year in less than two weeks at the new school. It was a kind of small town and it had three high schools. My school name was Madison High School.

She would've been watching our little brother if she hadn't already made a friend and they were already hanging out somewhere.

"Eddie, come down here, right now!" I yelled from the bottom of the staircase for him. I expected to see his bubbly self hopping down the steps but after a minute I grew angry and marched up the stairs.

I barged into his room without knocking and scanned it for him. He wasn't in here. I wasn't panicked yet until I saw his school supplies on the floor.

He had already put his school supplies in his backpack because he was really eager to go to school.

Did he run away? I asked myself. I was automatically crying. I called for his name some more. I checked the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, everything and no sign of him.

I went back to his room and checked his closet and even under his bed. When I stood, I saw that he had been drawing something. The woods.

He had been so curious about those woods when we arrived here. I wondered if he went off to there.

I ran down the stairs and grabbed my keys. I literally got the car and my license. I had to share it with my sister. She doesn't have the car right now because the friend, who remains unknown, picked her up.

I stuck the key in the ignition and set out to look for my baby brother. I was hoping to find him walking towards the woods but sadly, I didn't.

I parked outside of the woods. I stepped out of the car. I cupped my hands around my mouth and shouted,"Edward!" I kept screaming his name.

I was worried but I still went into the woods screaming his name. That was a bad mistake. I could get hurt out here, but that was my baby brother and if he wasn't in here, I want to make sure of that.

I found myself walking further and deeper into the woods. I didn't mean to but I hadn't noticed until I realized I didn't know where I was and how to get back to my car.

I pulled out my phone and I was shaking. I dialed the sheriff's office.

"Hello, I'm lost, somewhere in the woods, please help me," I cried into the phone."My little brother, I can't find him either and he could be in here too."

"Okay, calm down, sweetheart," The man in the other line."We'll send a search party out, you'll be fine, don't panic."

"Okay," I replied, trying to contain myself. I had never been in this type of situation before.

"Do you want me to stay on the line with you to keep you company?" He asked.

"Yes, sir, please," I said, nodding even though he couldn't see me.

He talked to me a little while longer before I heard something behind me. I turned around to see, standing about 15 feet away from me, a huge black bear. I dropped my Iphone in shock.
