the plot thickens

The next morning, Kendall Conway had woken up in her bed alone. She rubbed the sleepiness out of her eyes as she exited her room in search of the boy.

Her heart beat nervously as she noticed her pace quicken. She checked every room in the house, she had called out his name, yet he was nowhere to be found.

She walked back into her room, placing her hands down on her dresser. She couldn't believe he had just upped and gone. She breathed heavily, fighting to keep the tears in.

She faced up to the mirror, disappointed in what she saw. Her hair was in disarray, her skin pale. She quickly brought her hands up to her hair, trying to smooth it out, freezing when her eyes caught the corner of her mirror.

A note hung clutched to the corner. Her hand slowly reaching for it.

Kendall,
I have to go... last night was a mistake. I am so sorry for everything.
-Adam

Tears brimmed her eyes quickly as she stared at the note. A mistake? She had waited for this moment with Adam since she fell in love with him. And he thought it was a mistake? Was everything he told her a lie?

Her tears began to fall more furiously now as she crumpled up the paper and threw it, "why in the hell would he do this to me?"

She didn't know what to do as she rushed for the phone, dialing a number she would rather forget.

"Hello?" The deep voice answered.

"Jack, where's Adam?" She asked almost instantly.

"Kendall? Uh he's currently on a plane to Europe for the summer." Jack muttered, being too hungover to care.

"Do you know when he'll be back?"

"Just before school starts back up. Is that all you want?"

Kendall remained silent, fighting back the tears once more. "Yeah. That's all."

She hung up quickly, grabbing her shoes and keys before heading out the door. She walked the streets looking like a crazy person before arriving at the door of a small home.

She pounded on the door furiously until her friend popped out from behind the door, "kens- what's wrong?"

A few tears streamed down her face as she looked into the eyes of her best friend, "Connie- i think i just made the biggest mistake of my life."

AUGUST

The varsity hockey back to school mixer was in full effect. It was this prestigious party that happened every year that introduced what to expect for the new hockey season. Now that the Ducks were the new varsity team at Eden Hall, they all had to be in attendance.

The brunette girl sat down at her spot where her name was written fancily on a placeholder. She laughed shortly, she never pictured herself at a party like this.

Nerves filled in her stomach as she watched people file into the room and take their seats. Some of those people being college scouts. Rick Riley was right, varsity was a whole other level of pressure.
