the final year

SENIOR YEAR - OCTOBER

The girl looked toward the stands, noticing the scouts that were scattered throughout them. She had to do better, this was her last hope.

Her whole life she'd been training for this year to come. The moment of scouts being the people you had to impress. And if she didn't impress them enough? This would be the end. Getting into the very few college woman's hockey teams were hard enough, it would be nearly impossible to get a shot in the minors and no way in hell for the majors.

This year, she had to put forth everything she had within herself. Her whole life had been hockey, hockey, hockey! How could she ever adjust to none at all?

She pushed herself, gliding across the ice. Quickly she handled the puck from side to side, hoping it would trick the goalie until she got close enough. The satisfying noise of the buzzer sounded, signaling the shot made into the right side of the net.

She looked up, watching as some of the scouts nodded their heads in approval and jotting down some notes. She smiled, finally skating around to her teammates.

"Nice job kens."

She smiled, "thanks Adam."

Things with her and Adam had been well... friendly. Not the best they could've been but definitely not near the worst.

She glided down the ice, earning one more goal
and three assists by the end of the game. She was giving her all.

"You're so hot when you're determined." Dean smiled, throwing his arm over the girls shoulders and leaning down to kiss her. She turned her head, accepting before jokingly objecting, "stoppp it! You flatter me. I probably look like an angry little gremlin."

"The hottest gremlin i've ever seen." He responded, opening the passenger side of his shitmobile but what he instead named Cobain.

"Bye you two!" Julie shouted from across the parking a lot, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively. Charlie in tow behind her, "stop doing that. That's the last thing i want to think about." He complained.

"Just because you haven't gotten any like your whole life doesn't give you the excuse to deter others," Julie joked.

Charlie gasped offendedly, "i've gotten some!"

"Okay Charlie!" Julie spoke sarcastically turning to walk away from him, Charlie fleeting after her, "hey!"

Kendall laughed, Dean closing the door behind her before getting in himself.

"So, where to?"

"Hmm, you decide."

He scrunched his eyebrows in disapproval, "why what are you thinking about?"

She shook her head with tight lips, "nothing." But he knew otherwise.

"No seriously. I'm not moving Cobain until you spill."

She looked towards the window widening her eyes. She knew he wouldn't understand, he never did. She spoke quietly, "i'm thinking about hockey and scouts. Our hockey season is about to be over in two short months. What if i'm not good enough?"

He sighed tilting his head back, "hockey again? Seriously? It's not that big of a deal kens... it's just a game."

She shook her head irritably, "I knew you wouldn't understand."

"Understand what? You're an amazing hockey player but so what if you don't cut it? There are other things out there other than hockey."

"Yeah! Nothing i want to do!" She paused, searching his eyes, "hockey is my everything. Didn't you know that before you started dating me?"
