*Wynter's Pov!*
Artemis's house was small, but it felt very comfortable. His eyes turned to mine, waiting for a reaction. "I know it isn't the best place, but my parents try to keep it clean for guests." He said, looking nervous. "Artemis, I love it. This must have been a wonderful place to grow up in." I said as he just looked down. This worried me, more than he realized. But he just led me to the kitchen, showing me the backyard.
"This is where I always play with my brothers Finn and Alex. Right now they are at the store, but even when they are gone like this. I used to play with my older sister Faith. She loved basketball, I used to envy her. How she never gave up, she just kept practicing." He said, tears brimming his eyes. "Artemis.." I said quietly, wrapping my arms around him as he stared out of the kitchen window. It was quiet, too quiet.
I never knew he lost his older sister. I guess that's why he doesn't judge me for mine, because he has been through it just like I did. "Who is she?" Artemis flinched, turning around as well as I. The voice echoed, and once I met their eyes, I realized it was an older guy. He looked just like Artemis, but much older. "What do you want Tate?" He asked, rolling his eyes. But Tate just stepped closer, staring daggers at me. "Is that your girlfriend?" He said, looking mad.
"No." Artemis said, making me look back at him. What does he mean no? "Were nothing serious, she just came here to mess around." He said, laughing. Tate laughed as well, taking my hand and bringing me toward him. "So if that's the case, you don't mind if I have fun too?" Tate smirked, I then slapped him hand away. "Don't fucking touch me." I spit out. I looked back at Artemis. "Neither of you are going to, don't even try that." I then pushed past them both, storming out of the house.
What the hell was he even saying? That we weren't serious? That I was just here to mess around? Who the hell does this guy think he is?
I turned around as I walked, seeing if it was just some type of joke. But it wasn't, he was nowhere to be found. I just turned back around, walking back home. But the problem was, I didn't know where I was. So I did what I could, called Jason. Liv said, he needed comfort, so maybe I can help in some way. I scrolled through my phone, found his name, and called it.
It rang twice before he answered. "Hey Wyn, what's up?" Jason said as I sighed against the speaker. "I need to be picked up...could you.." I didn't get to finish before he spoke up. "Yes, I'll be there." I smiled against the phone as I heard him grab his keys. "Thanks Jason." I said as he just smiled. "Anytime Wyn." He then hung up as I sent him the address. Once I put my phone back, I looked to see Artemis through his window.
It was too far away for me too see him, but I honestly didn't care. We weren't anything serious, he established that. So I got out my phone and sent him a text. :We are done, I was just messing around remember? I couldn't see his face when he read the message, but when he walked away, leaving the message on seen. I knew that I was right, I wasn't really anything serious.
Tears pooled in my eyes, begging to slip out. But once I heard a car pull up behind me I turned around. Jason stepped out, walking toward me slowly. His eyes were washed over in worry. "Wyn, are you okay?" He asked, finally face to face. "Me and..Artemis just broke up..and you just broke up with Liv...so maybe, we can help each other?" I asked as he smiled. "Yeah, I would like that." He said as I smiled back.
My tears dried against my eyes, unable to come out now. But the sadness of it was still there. I had to ignore it, at least till we got somewhere private. I got inside his car as he did as well. It was quiet, we both sat there, staring out at the empty street. Both of our minds were filled with questions, thoughts that we hoped no one could hear. "Do you.." He said breaking the silence.
"Wanna get ice cream?" He finished saying, I just nodded as he started the car. "What music do you like?" He said as I found myself smiling. "Do you like Chase Atlantic, or the neighborhood?" He slowly turned his head, smirking. "Hell yeah I do." He said, making me laugh as he fished out his phone, handing me his playlist. I put on Cassie by Chase Atlantic and we both just sang to it.
I looked over at Jason, being dramatic against the lyrics as I found myself laughing. He looked at me, laughing back as a smile appeared on his face. It was good he was happy, I didn't know Jason could be this fun. "Do you like 23 by them?" He said loudly as I nodded dramatically. "Good!!!" He yelled, turning it on once the song ended. This was how it was the entire drive, switching to different songs between artists.
The beach, tidal wave, sweater weather, fallen star, swim. It was so nice, to just sit here and let go for a second, and I thought it would be awkward between me and Jason. But it wasn't, more like the complete opposite. Once we finally got to the ice cream shop, we both quickly stepped out. Our eyes met, running towards the door. He got to it first as an old lady stepped out, hitting him with the door.
It didn't take me long to burst out laughing, and so did he. The lady looked at us confused, walking past us. "I win!" He said as I just scoffed. "That was basically a loss, you got hit by the door." I said hysterically. He then grabbed my hand, leading me inside. "Come on." He whined as I continued to laugh.
