Chapter 8: The Truth and The Monster

We now see Zero walking through the Upside Down as he is looking for Will as he keeps thinking about the situation earlier with the group. He was so busy berating himself that he would just end up wandering the Upside Down while looking for Will but would not be aware of what path he would take making the search longer. 

Zero: I'm a monster, a liar, and a traitor.

Zero has been repeating those words as he was walking to Will. He just wanted to protect his friends and he only ended up hurting them in the process. Thoughts about the other numbers and the workers in the facility and Brenner also came as it only brought him down more.

Zero: I can't do anything right. All I do is try to help but I only end up causing more damage.

He is slowly getting angry at himself as heat started to come off his body as he stopped in his tracks and got down to his knees.

Zero: Why can't I do anything right? Why am I the monster? Why? Why?! WHY?!

As he kept saying why he got more angry as more heat started to come off.

Zero: *slamming hands on the ground* WHY?! WHY?! WHY?!

As he slammed his hands down each slam caused a burst of fire to come off his body.

Brenner: Why would you do this?

Mike: What's wrong with you?

As those words echoed in his head, he lost control and let loose.

Zero: WHYYYYYYYY?!

I giant pillar of fire erupted into the sky as it lit up a good portion of area and some of the surroundings got burned and were as black as charcoal. 

Zero: *Panting* Thats better.

*LOCATION CHANGE*

Will was sitting in castle Byers waiting for Zero to come back. He would, right? he wouldn't leave him here, right? 

Will: Where are you Zero?

Just then he leaves to go get some of the food at the store he and Zero went to when they first met. As he leaves, he sees a giant pillar of fire as he thinks that Zero is back.

Will: Zero?!

Will runs towards where the pillar was as fast as he could and doing his best to make sure that he didn't make too much noise. He gets closer as he smells smoke and something burning and as he does, he sees Zero get up panting as he walks in the other direction. Will follows to get him to notice him but before that something happens.

Zero:

(A/N: I know that this show takes place in the eighties so when it comes to songs like this. It's just Zero making up a song he likes to sing in his pastime but doesn't do it in front of other people.)

While Zero was singing this song he had not noticed Will was behind him following him silently.

Will: (Thinking) Zero, what happened when you went to the right side up? You sound sad and angry. 

Will kept following him as he could only wonder what happened and why is he sad, he had so many questions as he kept following him. One of the biggest questions was why he was putting so much emphasis on the word monster each time it was said.

Zero was going through his memories back at the facility and each memory hurt him as he kept singing. He had gotten some control over his emotions as he was making sure that fire wasn't coming off of him and the ground wasn't shaking and there was no strong gust. He kept thinking about the hate he received from those around him. It hurt him more, but he just kept singing and towards the end of the song he thought about the time him and El spent together. How they made each other smiled, laugh, how they enjoyed each other's company which caused him to cry after he finished.
