As they left the interview room, Nicholas was seething with anger. Violet could feel the tension radiating from him as they walked down the hallway of Buckingham Palace. She tightened her grip on his arm, offering silent support.

"Nicholas, I know that interview got under your skin, but we handled it gracefully," Violet said softly, trying to soothe his temper.

He took a deep breath, visibly trying to calm himself. "You're right, Violet. I shouldn't have lost my composure like that."

They reached a more private area of the palace, away from the prying eyes of the media. Nicholas turned to face Violet, his expression softening. "I just hate when they bring up my mother's memory like that. It's always painful."

Violet nodded understandingly. "I know, love. But we got through it together, and our answers were sincere. Your mother would be proud of the way you handled it."

He managed a small smile, grateful for her support. "You always know the right thing to say, don't you?"

She smiled back at him, a twinkle in her eyes. "That's what you love about me, isn't it?"

Nicholas chuckled, pulling her closer. "Among many other things."

They stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, finding comfort in the warmth of their love. The challenges of the public eye were nothing compared to the strength of their bond.

Nicholas brought up the topic, his voice heavy with regret, "Violet, about the interview and the ring, I need to explain why I didn't use my mother's engagement ring."

Before he could continue, Violet gently placed her finger on his lips, silencing him. Her eyes met his with unwavering support. "Nick, you don't owe me any explanations. I understand your reasons, and they're valid. You made the choice you felt was right, and I respect that."

Relieved by her understanding, Nicholas pulled her closer and led her into one of the palace's elegant drawing rooms, where they could have a more private conversation. He sighed, trying to find the right words. "You see, Violet, I didn't use my mother's ring because I didn't want to burden you with the weight of those memories. Diana was beloved by the world, and her legacy is a heavy one to carry. People will inevitably compare you to her, but I didn't want to start our journey with that constant comparison."

Violet listened attentively, her heart going out to him. She knew how much his mother's memory meant to him and the world. "Nick, I appreciate your thoughtfulness. I know I'll always be compared to Princess Diana, but I also know that I can never replace her. I can only be myself, and I promise to love you with all my heart."

Nicholas smiled, a mixture of relief and love in his eyes. He held her hand gently. "That's all I want, Violet. To have you by my side, as yourself, as the woman I love."

Nicholas pulled back slightly, his hand still cupping Violet's cheek, as he continued, his voice filled with sincerity. "Violet, I wanted to give you something special, something that would be uniquely yours. A ring that you would be the only one in the world to wear."

Violet's eyes glistened with emotion as she listened to his heartfelt words. She touched the ring on her finger, a symbol of their love. "Nick, this ring is more special to me than anything else in the world. It represents our love, and that's all I've ever wanted."

He smiled, his love for her shining brightly. "I'm so glad to hear that, Violet. You mean everything to me, and I want to cherish every moment we have together."

They shared a tender moment, their hearts entwined, knowing that the ring was not just a piece of jewelry but a symbol of their unique and profound love. In that private drawing room, they were the only two people in the world, and nothing else mattered except the love they shared.
