Chapter-26(Calm before the storm)

Author's POV

A boy is standing in his balcony looking at the aesthetic scenery of the night sky that is filled with the twinkling stars coupled with the beautiful full moon that is illuminating its light brightly on him providing peace to him. His black hair is caressed by the gentle breeze. He has a smile on his face that reaches his eyes which tells us that he is genuinely happy and is enjoying the serene atmosphere around him.

Alexander's POV

Here I am standing on the balcony of my room enjoying the rare peace and the serene atmosphere that the night sky is providing me just doubled my happiness. I know this peace won't last for long as this is the calm before the storm so I just want to live the movement to its fullest.

I come across a lot of people cause of my status as the crown prince and most of them are scared of me, some of them just act in front of me for their political or personal benefits. Most of my acquaintances in the circle try to gain my favor as they have their own motives to befriend me.

Coming to my family, my father never cares about me, my father's beloved concubine is patiently waiting for a chance to kill me so that her son can inherit the throne. My grandfather, Harold though loves me, to him his responsibilities come first than his grandson. More than a good grandson or a good human being he wants me to be a good emperor who works for the betterment of the empire. He wants me to be just like him keeping the welfare empire before anything may it be friends, family or even myself. As for my grandparents their presence in the palace is restricted by my father.

It feels really good to have someone who cares about you, who shares your happiness and sorrows, who remembers things about you, who encourages you, who fills you with courage and confidence. It is really a blessing to have such kind of people around you. It was only my mother who genuinely loves me. It's been five years since her death but there was never a day gone without me thinking about her. I really miss her.

After my mom the person who genuinely cares for me is Lina. It was because of her I overcame the loss of my mother, though it still hurts whenever I remember her but it was bearable. With her by my side everything feels easy. She understands me without me expressing my feelings. She just doubles my happiness and reduces my sorrows by sharing my emotional burden. Aunt Elena loves and cares for me a lot. She makes me feel like I am a part of this family and as for Duke Lucius though he looks cold he cares for me in his own twisted way.

My moment was disturbed when I sensed a presence in my room but soon relaxed my alerted senses as it was a very familiar aura. Well, speaking of the devil.

" You know about her plan to surprise you beforehand right???"asked Duke Lucius.

" Yes" I responded calmly.

" Then were you acting surprised just now??"he asked.

" Yes, but before the Duke could accuse me that I deceived his daughter and start your lecture, I would like to say that I have learnt this from the Duke himself. I would like to remind the great Duke Lucius that he also did the same thing on his birthday. If him acting as if he was surprised even when he knew about his daughter's plan to surprise him beforehand was named deceiving then, yes, I did deceive her." I said.

It's not that she is very bad at planning a surprise or anything, she is very good at planning and executing it's just that it would have worked amazingly on a normal person but on with me or Duke Lucius. The problem here is that we are trained in martial arts and our special abilities always keep our senses on high alert. We always analyse our surroundings carefully to know about everything going around us. We can sense a person's presence through their scent, their aura, the order or sound of their footsteps and many other factors that distinguish a person from the other. May it be me or Duke Lucius we both keep an eye on Lina for her safety purposes so, we do get to know about her little movements and not hard to guess her intentions.

"Well, I am her father I don't want to feel sad because she failed to surprise me so I acted accordingly. I did that to make her happy."

" Then I am her fiance, even I don't want to make her sad. I also want her to be happy. I don't see the problem when both of us ever want is her happiness ." I said frankly.

Yes, just like Duke Lucius I also want her to be happy. I like being the reason for her happiness.

" Well, I also know that you asked me to stay the night here just because she asked you to. I also know that you gave me a day off tomorrow just for her sake."

Today, the great Duke Lucius who sees me as a hindrance in spending his time with his daughter, a person who couldn't wait for me to return to the palace suddenly asked me to stay the night. Well, that's suspicious but it is easy to guess that he did this only for Lina. Only she can control the great Duke Lucius.

" Where is she taking you tomorrow???"he asked.

He wants to know where we are going tomorrow but the thing is I myself don't know where Lina is taking me but I trust her so much that I can follow her blindly.

So I replied honestly " Even I myself don't know but don't worry I will protect her with my life." I said.

" You should also take care of yourself." He said. I know though he looks tough he still cares for me in his own way.

" Is the great Duke Wilson worrying about me????" I asked with a smirk.

" Well, if anything happens to you then it would be a waste of years of my hard work in training you. I don't want my efforts to go to waste so I don't want anything to happen to my student. Soon a war is going to break out according to the latest reports from the borders, so I want you to be prepared for it. I do know that you won't let anything happen to her, though I hate to admit it you are the best among all the students I have trained till today. It's getting late go to sleep don't stay up till late, Good night and once again Happy Birthday." He said.

" Thank you and good night." I said. He left after hearing my reply.

That's an unexpected praise from the great Duke Wilson. It's for him to show his care or trust so openly but it still warms my heart at his concern. When my own father never cared about me he stood before me like a fatherly figure, though he looks tough he is sweet just like Lina. They are not related to me but they take care of me like I am a part of their family.
I am very thankful for them.

I am still looking at the moon I know this is calm before the storm as the day I have to leave for the war is getting near day by day. I may not get a moment like this to stand and appreciate the beautiful atmosphere around me. I am still standing on the balcony enjoying the rare peace reminiscing about my happy moments from the past five years.
