𝗜 𝗠 𝗔 𝗡 𝗜I felt like a child at a playground. There were animals everywhere. The purpose of this convention is to fundraise, network, breed, learn etc. I could find a new company to work for or join a breeding team. They usually need vets around to help care for their animals but not every team is a team you wanna join. Some of these people breed these poor animals not realizing the health defects that comes with it. It's like selling a faulty product and the buyers don't know how to properly care for the animals so they just end up dying anyway.
And no one cares because the more exotic an animal looks, the more they can breed and the more money they can make. I don't support it at all. Regardless of how cute, harming animals for a buck is disgusting and morally I can't go for it.
Many people came to see the animals and feed them or see presentations about them. It's such a nice event. I've been to about eight in total and they always end well. A guy from Seattle came and brung twin monkeys from their zoo and taught a group of kids about them. Some zookeepers from Florida brung a caiman. Pretty sure that shouldn't be here but you know what, I'm not the boss.
I enjoyed the large fish tank and pools of starfish, turtles and crabs the most. It was nice to touch them all and hold the baby turtles. My second favorite would without doubt be the spiders that were next to it. I held their hobo spider before coming to the abandoned booth of snakes. It wasn't my business until one of them were trying to crawl out of them bin.
I went over and grabbed it from the bin. It's just a white ball python. Looks like a juvenile that was cross bred. While I was inspecting the snake, a group of teenagers walked over to me. "Is that a snake ?"
"It appears so. Wanna hold it ?"
"That's a snake and the first thing you ask is if we want to hold it ?"
"Well ? Do you or not ? It won't bite unless you're scared" I bargained. The other kids looked at him to see if he was going to do it or not. He hesitated and then reached his hand out to grab it. "Aht, wrong"
"There's a way to grab a snake ?"
"Depends on if you wanna get bit or not. Slide that hand under the snake gently to pick it up and use the other to support the rest of it"
"Like this ?" He followed my instructions and pulled the snake from my hold into his. The snakes tail wrapped around his wrist and I saw the boy starting to pale in the face.
"Don't piss the snake off" His dread headed friend said.
"It's not so bad. Anybody next ?" I ask.
"Nah we're good" They all backed away and I giggled.
"Trust me the nerves go away after so many times" I took the snake back and had a talk with them before they walked away. Nice kids, just goofy. Just as I was placing the snake in its bin and closing it properly a guy walked up behind the booth with two more snakes. "You're not Rayez. How long have you been here ?"
"Quite a while actually and no Rayez here"
"Goodness, I'm gonna kill him. Thank you for being here he was supposed to be watching the stand while I had a presentation"
"I heard it, good job up there"
"Oh- thank you" He blushed. He's handsome. A lean but fit body, probably about 6'2. His dark hair was cut into some sort of mullet but it shaped his chiseled face nicely. His skin is a perfect tan with a few tattoos on his arm and more ear piercings than anything else. He's not bad boy handsome. He's more like submissive and breedable. I like."You must be a vet. I don't know anyone without experience being so comfortable with snakes like this"
