That morning I had my monthly visit to the gynaecologist, it was almost in the 4th month and Frank and I were looking forward to knowing our baby's sex. Doctor Stone was passing the ultrasound machine over my belly to check if everything was fine: "is it already possible to see if it is a she or he? Frank can't stop coming up with new girl names every night at dinner time" I said laughing. Doctor Stone didn't answer but kept on the examination "that looks like a pussy; therefore I would say it is a baby girl!"

I started crying "Oh my God... I mean if it is healthy we will accept both, but Frank would go much more nuts for a girl!" "It is a 90% a She, I think you should bear your husband's frenzy till she is born" laughed Doctor Stone in return. "You can get dressed, Daphne. Everything is going well, in the standard", we fixed the new appointment for the following month and I left her clinic. I immediately phoned Frank "honey... guess what?" I heard him taking a deep breath on the other side of the line "Hi love...is it a girl? Wait... first, is it fine?" he answered "yes, SHE is!" I said marking the female pronoun. Frank screamed at my words "oh babe, I'm so happy! I mean, boy or girl, his/her health would be the first thing to care about, but... in this regard, I found new names for her, I'll share them with you tonight!" I laughed "Frank... please..." We had been waiting for so long, after so many tries and treatments for fertility that we had given up hopes. "Baby, I can't wait to come back home and hug you both. My beautiful girls!"

That night we made love, in the sweetest and most special way ever. Becoming three would mean a new beginning, a new life, leaving the past behind. At last. "I love you so much, babe. I couldn't have chosen a better woman than you" said Frank holding my face into his hands, lying on the side next to me. "I am the happiest and luckiest woman with you, Frank! I couldn't ask for anything more perfect than that. We're gonna be a family! It's a dream coming true!"

The day after I went with my mom to look for some clothes for the baby girl, now that we knew the sex it was easier to choose the colours for her: pink and yellow, my favourite ones! We came home holding two huge bags and Frank loved all of them when I showed him after dinner. "She will look like a princess, babe, they are beautiful. May I buy her the shoes? If you trust my taste.." I smiled and kissed him "of course you can, honey. She will be the queen in our hearts".

It was my last lesson of birthing class, I was alone because Frank had a meeting and couldn't attend it. Our midwife teacher Mary gave us a present, one each, a white bib "you will add the name of your baby girl or boy after birth, if you know someone who's good at sewing, maybe a new grandma", she said with a wink. We thanked her, wished each other good luck and exchanged phone numbers to create a WhatsApp chat group "MOMS", then left the gym.

My phone rang as soon as I was going to cross the street, it was 8 o'clock but already dark, being November: "Frank, honey, I have just finished the lesson. The other moms say Hi and wish us good luck..." I heard the horn honking at the very last moment, when the car was still going too fast to dodge me. I was hit by the front of the car, bounced on the hood and fell on the tarmac with a thud. Some of the moms screamed while Mary came out of the building and ran to see what had happened "Hurry up, someone call an ambulance!" Jennifer, my breathing exercises' mate, took the mobile from her bag and did it. They were there in 15 minutes, stopped behind Mary's back "what happened?" asked one of the paramedics. In the meantime the driver was still in the car, desperately crying and banging his fists on the steering wheel when a paramedic knocked on the window; he finally rolled it down and listened to him "would be so kind to tell us about the dynamics of the accident while we wait for the police to arrive?" The man got out of the car shaking and stuttering "I was driving and looking at my phone... I didn't see her coming till...I am so sorry... I don't know...I...oh God what have I done... please tell me she is alive... I won't be able to bear it..." The paramedic squeezed the man's arm "she looks alive... for now. We think she took quite a hit and my colleagues are checking". The man told his name to the police officer when they arrived and gave him his documents, while the others tried to figure out the event.
