"Please...Don't let her catch me!" Snow White begged the Mad Hatter, "She told me to find you and take you to the palace. I think she has good reasons to hate you" he answered. She kneeled down "Please... My only sin was to be born. She is obsessed with beauty and..." "She has been listening to the magic mirror every day for years? I know but there should be other things you did to make her hate you. Maybe you stole the man in her life, didn't you?" Snow White was amazed by that statement and shut up. Jefferson turned to walk out of the room "Listen to my side, I think I deserve it then you'll make up your mind, will you?" he stared her "alright. I'm all ears, light me up". Snow White sat on the cold floor crossing the legs "She got married to my father when I was very little, as you know my mom – the queen – got suddenly sick and died in less than 6 months. No one was able to figure out the cause. Do you wanna know why?" Jefferson didn't blink, his eyes turned black then he nodded "She got poisoned. With Thallium. No one is aware of his existence rather than its farming use as pesticide sometimes. I found her makeup kit and..." he stopped her "wait, are you sure it wasn't you...the Queen told me everyone was aware of your lust for power, you were constantly competing with your mother. You were jealous because your father loved her more than you..." Tears flew down Snow White's cheeks "I can't believe she blamed me for her own crime! She hated her sister as much as she does with me now! My father chose my mom and not her, because he FELL in love with her. The Queen never accepted it and she projected that hatred onto me. She will never get over it or worse, she is going to do the same with me anytime she has a chance".

Jefferson got confused: the Queen had warned him against Snow White and the fact that she would have tried to persuade him or soften his heart, but she looked sincere and desperate. He had witnessed her being merciless at any price, they were so alike him and her but sometimes he brought up his human, sensitive side: this young woman wasn't guilty. He felt she was telling the truth, her mother died 8 years earlier and now Snow White had just turned 16: was a baby girl able to commit such a murder to one of the parents? Absolutely not! The question was: how did she know about the poison? "Let's just pretend for a second that I believe you. Who taught you the properties of herbs and poisons? It's not a subject suitable for children, right?" Jefferson asked waiting for a sign of doubt in her face but she answered immediately "I'm a witch. A kind of healer witch. And no, I had no power to save my mom. Thallium is colourless and odourless, I realized when I saw the last symptoms and it was too late. Atalaxia didn't allow her to walk properly or stand still, there I wasn't prepared because the antidote wasn't easy to be found in our lands".

Jefferson sighed "So young and already smart. You should have tried to explain earlier instead of looking at your mom disappearing day by day before your eyes" Snow White wiped her eyes and after swallowing replied "if you don't act immediately it goes right into the bloodstream. And there's nothing left to do, the remedy doesn't work anymore". Jefferson came closer to her "I keep the handcuffs on you but now you placed the seed of doubt in me: are you arguing that the Queen is a witch herself?" Snow White whispered "don't say it so loud! If she is a dark witch as I suppose, even trees are at her command when the darkness falls. The day I escaped from the palace and ran through the woods she made sure that I was scared by any shadow or branch, as I was into a circle of hell. I was lucky to fall and wake up nearby the Seven Dwarves' Hut. It had been all in my mind". Unfortunately Jefferson had been a victim of blackmail: his daughter Grace was still missing from the day he got stuck in Wonderland and the Queen came back with her father. When he did as well, there was nothing more than a memory of Grace: the house was quiet, only her toys was waiting for him and he regretted the day he said yes to using his hat to help the Queen get into Wonderland. He had been so dumb to believe in her fake promises and the last time was deadly: he lost the most important thing in life!

"I promise to help you finding you Grace" Snow White said suddenly "how do you know it? I told you nothing about me..." Jefferson was taken aback "I read your mind, sorry. I felt your pain and dared doing it. I never do without permission, I swear, but it was too loud not to be heard". He shed a tear "you're right. I miss her more than anything. She is all I have. My one and only love" Snow White touched his shoulder "we'll find her. Soon. I am confident" and smiled softly. Jefferson decided to trust her and took the longest way to the palace, he wanted to talk a little bit more with her "Why did she order me to catch you?" Snow White took a deep breath "I'm pregnant with a baby girl. She's going to be born in 5 months. She saw her in the mirror, maybe you don't know it shows what happens anywhere she asks for. And she's afraid to have a new rival, that my daughter will be prettier than her as well. This is the reason why I have to find a way to make her disappear before the Queen kidnap her. She asked you to capture me because she wants to kill both of us or at least my baby girl first. She'll try to get rid of her!" Jefferson's face turned darker and shocked "how can she possibly feel like slaughtering a baby?" Snow White hung her head "she is cold-hearted and hungry for revenge. She won't rest until I'm alive".
