It had been a crazy Friday in the office and when I came out it was 7 o'clock. Luckily Bucky was coming home the morning after, after a week on a mission and Nate and Rebecca were so excited that they had even made some drawings for him. I texted Alice, the babysitter, that I was on the way and she answered immediately to take my time.

While I was parking the car in the garage, I heard the speaker on the radio wishing to all the listeners Happy Women's day in a very sweet way, through one of my favourite lines from Literature "..." I smiled to myself before switching it off, collecting my things and come into the house. I called when I just closed the door "Sweethearts I'm home!" but nobody answered, it was weirdly quiet inside and I shouted louder "Mom's home! Hello...is there anybody in there?" I noticed the lights were barely on: Nate and Rebecca were always used to run and hug me every evening but not that time, that was very unusual. l hung my coat in the wardrobe and switched on the table lamp before walking towards the kitchen "welcome home mom!!" My two children shouted showing up hidden by the countertop and scaring me to death "hello, my beautiful doll..." I heard Bucky's voice behind my shoulder and his warm arms holding me: I turned to fix my eyes into his "you came back earlier, my love! What happened?" Bucky kissed my lips delicately "not only today but every day... Happy Women's day..I couldn't miss to celebrate the woman in my life!"

My heart beat faster "I love you some much.. You're the man in mine!" Bucky lifted me bridal style, taking me to the table, already set with the nicest tablecloth and cutlery belonging to our wedding gift list "happy women's day to the best mom ever!" Nate and Rebecca said in unison hugging me and Bucky "my beloved treasures. Thank you. You make a better one every day! Is all that for me?" Bucky placed me on the ground as my children held a wonderful bunch of white roses, which are my favourite flowers, that made me burst into tears "oh my God... you're so sweet..,you left me speechless..." Bucky put a strawberry up to my mouth, I smiled and took a bite of it, and it was delicious! Then took me by the arm and walked me to my seat "today we thought about you only and we make a promise, we'll be cooking once a month on your behalf. I barely find time to rest, honey!" As I sit down, I opened my arms to hug all of them and they came closer to do share it "I couldn't ask for a better family! You're the most special gift God made me!"

Each of them answered "I love you" as we were holding each other tight, till Bucky said "My lady should be hungry after such a long day and...I think your daily sandwich has been half eaten only, am I right?" Of course he was, I had not time for lunch and my stomach was starving: I looked at Nate holding a huge dish of sandwiches "there are all your favourites, those with pickles included!" shouted Rebecca. I took one and the look on their faces invited me to eat it in a single bite "Ladies and gentlemen, let's get the party starteeeeeeeed!!" shouted Bucky holding my hand and Rebecca's, Nate did the same with mine and hers as we started dancing in a merry- go-round in the middle of the kitchen. We spinned around so fast that we finally fell on the floor laughing "Oh my Lord... we better sit and have dinner now. The diner recommends pizza, fried chicken or Mac and Cheese and.... of course strawberry cupcakes!" We stood up to walk to the table as our children served the listed dishes "tonight you won't do anything mom, just stay here and enjoy your meal. We'll be your waitresses for a night...and we promise to help you more in the household tasks. Nat and me we'll keep our rooms tidier starting from today. Later you see when it's sleep time", I smiled to my little boy who was turning into a little man so fast as Rebecca into a little woman "I'm so proud of you, my darlings!" I squeezed and kissed the palm of both their hands when they came closer to me and sent a smack to Bucky to the other side of the table.

We talked about school and holidays as the Spring break was just round the corner, till it came to my mind that our children were grown-up enough to go to Disneyland "Crew, what about a trip to Disneyland? It's been so long since your dad and I took the last real vacation. I should have about a month off to benefit. What about you, my love?" Bucky giggled as he was biting a slice of pizza at the same time his eyes fixed Rebecca and Nate who giggles in return, they were hiding something to me "what's going on, honey?" I asked suspiciously, Nate answered "nothing mom, what makes you think so?" He gave himself away when I heard the thud of a kick to his chair, under the table, coming from Rebecca, "what are you up to?" suddenly Rebecca asked her dad "Say it, papa!" then Bucky spoke "we're flying to LA on May 24th and back home on Saturday 8th June. In between we'll be going to Disneyland!"

I was blown away by such surprise "are you kiddin', hon'?" Bucky stood up and came closer to hold my hands into his "no, I'm not. We'll go on vacation including your birthday celebration. I've already booked everything and... Our kids phoned you company... to be accurate, your HR chief... and she accepted your days off!" I couldn't believe to my ears "I love my crazy family! You're incredible!" A tight group hug and kisses followed. "Have I told you how lucky I am to have you?" Bucky's reply came right after "as much as we're to have you, doll!" The dinner ended after the cupcakes' feast, thanks to which we were so stuffed and tired that, after cleaning up the kitchen, we went to bed: Bucky and I waited for Nate and Becca to brush their teeth and get their pyjamas on, then kissed them goodnight "Dream of our super journey, sweethearts, tomorrow I wanna know every single thing you'd like to try there!" Their smiles warmed our hearts so much before they closed the eyes.

After closing the door, Bucky took my hand and guided me into our bedroom: surprises weren't over yet! White roses' petals partially covered the bed in the shape of our names' initials "this is so sweet, my love...the last time I saw this kind of thing it was during our honeymoon in the Hawaii! You remembered our bed..." Bucky came closer to turn me and wrap my waist into his strong arms, I welcomed him squeezing his biceps lightly, or at least what my small fingers could hold of them, "How could I forget about that? Finally you were mine, Mrs Barnes, for life!" "And you, mine, Sergeant Barnes. I've never loved someone the way that I love you, you know? You're the most amazing husband, dad and man I could have ever asked for!"

Bucky smiled and whispered tenderly to my ear "I've never been so happy in my life, till the day I found you". No more word were needed, our bodies longed for each other and that night we made love in such a perfect way even the angels would have blushed to: the 2 halves of the same heart. Living their best life together.
