"I don't know Gary, when I came home, he was inside the garage, he wasn't feeling like himself." Cleaning the house as she talks to Gary on the phone. Gary on the other end, is in his room, doing research for one of the assignments their teacher has given out to them. Gary likes to get things done early to not stress himself out too much. Getting things done weeks or days before the work has to be submitted brings the nerves to him.
"Weird. You sure he's going to be fine? Because in fact, you could have let him stay with you." She stops for a bit, thinking of what he has said.
"I know but he insisted that he still goes there. Because that's Danny."
"Ahh. I see you have a smart, strong brother." She smiles at that fact.
"I can't say no to that." The two continue talking to each through their phones. The two were able to get each other's phone number while in university. Both wanting to stay connected to each other while they can.
Upstairs, inside Danny's room, completely empty, all clean after Jen was able to clean his room once she dropped him to school. Nothing there. Only the sound of wind can be heard from the window, which is open. The window stays put, not a single movement on what it's trying to do as the wind gets more stronger, wanting the window to be moved. The sound of the door of the bathroom, opens. Enough to get Jen's attention but too focused on her conversation with Gary. Not able to concentrate on what's happening upstairs.
Footsteps, creaking noise from the floor, it creeps, closely to the door. Closer and closer, the creeping nose from the floor stops. And a hand. Wearing black gloves reaches the door knob.
"Hmmm... I would have to think about it."
"Yes sure, I don't want to force you. Besides, we'll just be in the café, studying this material that our lecturer gave us."
"Oh yeah, if he ever reads what he typed for our brief." Before putting pressing the button to activate the washing machine, washing her and Danny's clothes.
Bang. Jen looks up. Hearing it for the first time. A loud bang catching her attention. The washing machine continues operating as she approaches the stairs, with her phone on her hands. She puts her hands on the handle. She observes. But nothing appears to come at her. Hesitant to look further up...
"Jen... Jen..." Her attention, too focused on where the noise is coming from. He answers again from her phone. Loudly, enough to get her as she immediately puts her phone on her ear.
"Gary, I'm gonna have to call you back."
"Okay, take care." She hangs up before him. Putting the phone back in her jean pocket, she decides to go upstairs, check what's going on inside there.
But more cautious, more careful, she lifts her leg, onto the next step. Slowly, not wanting to rush ahead to what she thinks, could be an intruder.
Step by step, step by step. Not going up fast but slow, she finally makes it to the room. Remaining calm and silent, she slowly approaches Danny's room. Observed, she sees the door closed. Knowing the last time she went to his room, it was left open, not closed. Seeing this, she goes to the bathroom. Wanting to get something from there.
Going inside, the bathroom, all white and cleaned, she approaches the drawer, revealing bathroom essentials. Looking there, she grabs a scissor. A large scissor with a black handle. Used in case there's something she struggles to open, mostly plastic. Holding it with her right hand, she closes the shelf, before leaving the bathroom, using an object, sharp enough to make a person lose their blood, one that could lead a person to leave the house before things gets worse.
Closing the bathroom door, she lifts the object, high up to let another person know what she's made of, what she wants them to see if anyone tries to mess with her.
