Nix hums to himself as he places items on the shelf, his earbuds blasting music loudly. He wasn't on register duty today so give him time to himself, let his mind wander to things. Like his soulmate. He was not expecting to meet his soulmate two weeks ago, especially at a place like that, killing monsters not giving him time to react to his friends dying or well they weren't his friends they were just people he smokes with. He doesn't want to sound like an asshole, but he was happy when the monsters came and interrupted their hang-out. Nix almost did something he never wanted to do, he almost gave in when they handed him the needle, he always said no, never wanting to follow in his fathers and sister's footsteps but that day, was such a stressful day for him and he wanted to escape to forget about it.

He would have regretted it; he would have hated himself for giving in. But he didn't, monsters came and ruined the moment, he felt blessed about it until he met his soulmate.

Nix used to be this hopeless romantic who always dreamed of meeting his soulmate, falling in love, and having that strong bond. He wanted that since he was a kid. But all of that changed when he turned 20. His father purposely overdosed a year after his 10-year-old brother died from a car wreck he and his father were involved in. His dad blamed himself, it was no one's fault, except for that drunk driver who hit them head-on. He felt guilty being the one to survive.

Nix's mother was still grieving her son and losing her husband/soulmate was a lot on her, especially since losing your soulmate, colors became dull, dark, and just plain looking. Nothing felt bright and colorful anymore and the color green was too hard for her to look at, so his mother refused to look him in the eyes because he had his father's bright green eyes.

His mother turned to drinking and sleeping all day, she lost her job because she just refused to go outside and see those dull colors. They lost his childhood home and was forced to move into a small crappy apartment with his depressed mother, drug-addict sister Piper, and his aunt Hailie. Nix and Hailie were the only ones working so they were extremely tight on money, especially since his sister would steal it no matter how many times they would hide it. The medication for his mother was expensive.

Nix gave up on wanting a soulmate, what if his soulmate died because of the monsters or a natural cause? He loses his love for colors and hating red, and blue sounded miserable for him. Also, what did he have to offer his soulmate? His shitty part-time job doesn't make enough money and finding a job was hard since he had no vehicle. A train ride or a cab drive somewhere further than 30 minutes was expensive. He couldn't go pay for a date or even go half on one. He couldn't even shower his soulmate with gifts. He likes buying gifts. Or he used to before things became harder at home.

His home life and his family issues sound like too much, how could someone love him with so much baggage? He has huge attachment issues and abandonment issues, and his depression sometimes can get the best of him. Also, his ADHD was always an issue in his casual dating life. Why bother someone with so many issues? He was terrified of love; he was scared of getting attached and then them deciding he wasn't enough. Yeah, they're forced to be together because they are soul mates but what if he's such a horrible partner they leave?

Nix didn't care that his soulmate was a guy, he preferred men over women. Cash isn't really a type of guy Nix would go for. Nix would sleep around with when he needed to get laid. But he didn't care, Nix wasn't a picky guy as long as Cash wasn't lazy, dirty, and bummy... Well, Cash is dirty, Nix isn't sure if Cash is completely lazy or not. But he was dirty as fuck. He didn't like that, but they weren't planning on dating anytime soon, Nix wasn't disappointed when Cash said he wasn't into men, nor did he want a soulmate.

Gives Nix time to take all of this in and figure out what he wants. Because he and Cash can't forget they exist because they can't be apart longer than four days. He doesn't mind being at Cash's place. He stayed the night 3 times so far. His entire apartment smells, Nix wanted to buy cleaning supplies and clean up the place and he also wanted to cook dinner. There's no way Cash is healthy when he only eats instant ramen and fast food every day.
