The gods began yelling at each other.
"Who saw her last?"
"What did you do?"
"Why is she coming back now?"
"Where is she?"
"Should we have a council?"
"Why did she contact Percy?" That last question was voiced by Poseidon. Percy shrugged facing his dad. He was trying to figure that out himself.
"The last two times some god said they were coming meant that they were locked up or stuck somewhere. Was Eris locked up?" He asked. The gods muttered quietly and some even changed the subject entirely. Artemis cleared her throat.
"Eris was... banned from Mount Olympus a few decades ago." She said. "None of us have seen her since." Percy took a few deep breathes to try and stay calm.
"Why?" Peter asked from behind him. The smell of lightning filled the air.
"And why should we tell a lowly outsider like you?" Zeus said with all the fake authority he could muster. Why he was trying to act all cool in front of some kid, Percy didn't know.
"I think we have bigger problems right now than Peter asking a question about said problem." Percy argued. Thunder boomed. Doesn't he know that trick hasn't scared Percy since he was thirteen?
"Perseus is right." Hera said which surprised Percy enough to verbally say, huh? Out loud.
"Huh?"
"Eris is a problem. We need to find her before she pulls something else and causes another war that we don't have time for." Percy rolled his eyes. Of course Hera's only problem with war is that it would be a slight inconvenience to her.
"You are dismissed." Zeus said. He could practically hear him shooing them away. Even though Percy and Peter were the ones that came in and started this conversation, they left before Percy could say something that would cause more problems for him.
"That was..." Peter started as they made their trek back to the elevator.
"A headache." Percy finished.
"Oh, sure. But I finally met my mom!" He said happily. "I had parents before. My mom and dad died when I was young so I don't have many memories of them. My aunt and uncle raised me until my uncle died too. So it's just been me and Aunt May. So it was, I don't know, great finally see my birth mother." His voice was quiet but it was easy for Percy to hear him over the loud noise of Olympus. "And! I have siblings! I've always wanted brothers or sisters!" Percy smiled. He remembered being finally accepting Tyson as his brother and holding Estella for the first time.
"Yeah, it's great." Before they reached the door, a voice called out to them.
"Perseus Jackson! Peter Parker!" A strong female voice yelled. "Percy! Peter!" Percy found it quite concerning that someone from Olympus knew Peter's name, a demigod that was just claimed a few minutes ago and didn't know who he was until a few days ago. Peter lightly grabbed his sweatshirt sleeve.
"Percy wait." He stopped and heard someone run up to them. "Um, hello." Peter said cautiously.
"I am so glad he followed my advice. You all will work so well together. Especially with Eris on the loose." Her voice was kind yet strong like she had experience in commanding a room. "She can be a real handful."
"Uh, have we met before?" Percy asked without any heat. She seemed nice enough. She chuckled.
"Oh, I'm sorry I should have introduced myself. I am Themis." Percy knew her. Hestia has talked about her once before. She called her her favorite aunt and spoke of her fondly. And if Hestia liked her then she was okay in Percy's book. And he remembers her symbol, a scale. The same symbol that was engraved on the card that Agent Fury showed him the day he came to his apartment.
"You're Fury's... uh, great, great something, right?" Percy said. He could hear Peter whip his head to face Percy. Themis laughed.
"Yes, Nicholas Fury is a legacy of mine. I was the one who pointed him in your direction. I told him you would be a great asset to his team and I thought you could use the mortal help with the whole Eris situation." Somewhere along the line, this kind goddess had a descendant that was as much of a hard-ass as Fury.
"Goddess of justice, law and order." Peter supplied. "It makes sense you're related to Agent Fury. As much as he likes to pretend to be cool and uncaring, Fury has a strong sense of justice." Percy believed him.
"Yes he does. I've spoken with him a few times and I can say he has a lot of my characteristics." She boasted. At least the minor gods make connections with their children, or legacies.
"But how do you know about Eris?" Percy asked.
"I have a lot of influence, Percy Jackson." She said firmly but not unkindly. "That includes both the other deities and the mortal world. So I know what Eris has been up too. I've seen it."
"You know where she is?" Percy really hoped he didn't have to go all the way to Alaska again to find a goddess. If Themis knew where she was, she could tell Zeus and the others and he didn't have to get involved at all.
"Unfortunately, Eris is clever and spontaneous. In the decades since she was banned from Olympus she has been all over the world. Literally. The last place I've seen her influence was New Zealand." She had the decency to sound sorry. "That was a few weeks ago." She leaned closer to the two. "She brought mosquitoes and sent them across the country." She whispered. Percy had no idea why that was such a big idea. His face must has looked confused because Peter spoke up.
"New Zealand is one of the only countries that doesn't have mosquitoes." Percy nodded in understanding. "Yeah it would be annoying for the citizens but adding an entirely new organism to an environment could have a lot of negative consequences for their ecosystem." Peter said with concern laced in his voice. Well there goes Percy's idea of a mosquito free vacation.
"I mean I'm sorry for all the bug bites those people are going to get but that seems pretty tame for a goddess of chaos and discord." Percy stated.
"She's also known as the 'goddess who calls forth war'" Themis added. "And your dream had a storm in the sky, is that not correct?" Percy learned to stop asking questions about how the gods knew so much about his personal life. Which apparently includes his dreams.
"Oh wow." Peter said from his side. Percy turned his head towards him. "Fury has this weird thing that he knows things. Things about someone that no one should know. It's like he has eyes everywhere." Peter told him. It sounded like Peter spoke from experience and Percy really did not want to ask.
"And isn't the last dream you had with a storm end up in a war?" Percy saw her point and sighed. "And I hope this adds a little more enthusiasm," She leaned close and whispered. "Eris is good friends with Ares." Okay, that did make things a little more interesting. Stopping a war? That's cool and all but stopping the friend of a god that you don't like? Even cooler. Although Percy still hopes he doesn't have to do anything and the gods will take care of it, but Percy isn't stupid.
When the two demigods got into the elevator, Peter let out a loud sigh. "So, we are going after Eris?" He asked a little too excited for Percy's taste.
"I really hope not." Percy stated. But who else unwillingly fixes the gods messes? Percy has a really bad feeling.
