When Percy walked up to the desk at the Empire State Building, he heard the man behind it sigh loudly. "It's you again." He said.
"Yeah yeah I know everyone loves me." He smiled. The man gave him the okay and Percy walked towards the elevator with muscle memory. One good thing about being blind is that Percy can't see the elevator doors. The doors that matched with the Doors of Death he saw when he was in Tartarus. And Percy didn't want to have a panic attack in front of the gods. He didn't even know how they would react. Zeus would probably just tell him to cut it out. Apollo and Hestia might be a little more sympathetic. The others would most likely just be confused about what was happening. It's not like the gods get anxiety. No, they just cause it.
But before he even entered the elevator, the sound of running footsteps and humming blood got closer and closer to Percy until Peter Parker stood in front of him. His heart was racing but he wasn't out of breath. "Percy, it's me, Peter." He said a little unsure of himself. "Um, from the tower and earlier today, and the other day before that." He rambled.
"Yeah I know." Percy just wanted to get this whole god thing over with. He really didn't want to have a conversation with Annabeth's unclaimed half-sibling. Who apparently has spider powers. "What is it?" He tried to keep his tone even but from the small step back Peter took, Percy guessed it didn't work.
"The other day you said something about me being... you know... like you." His heart raced faster. "And something about my mom." He said quietly. Oh just great. Percy thought. "And about your girlfriend whose blood sounds the same as mine?" He said in the form of a question. "And when I heard you were coming here to see her, I just wanted to, you know, meet her?" Another question. Now this was Percy's favorite thing in the world; being caught in a lie that he totally could have avoided if he told the truth. Percy groaned internally and pulled Peter into a corner.
"Ok listen." He started. "You are a child of Athena." Peter froze.
"Athena? The goddess of wisdom?" He could hear a small smile in his voice. "How do you know for certain?"
"Because my girlfriend, Annabeth, is also a child of Athena, which makes you her half-brother. And your blood makes the same humming sound that her and her other half-siblings make." Peter hummed.
"Can I meet her? Annabeth I mean. Wait, have you met the gods? You didn't seem awed when Thor showed up."
"First of all, I am never awed by the gods. Second, yeah I have and its not the most fun experience. Third, Annabeth isn't here." Peter shifted his stance.
"But you said-"
"Yeah I know." Percy dragged his hand across his face and groan, this time externally. "I'm here to talk to the gods." He could hear Peter moving around, most likely looking for said gods. "And," Percy was tired and once again just wanted this to be over. "You can come with me if you'd like." As much as the whole Eris is freaking him out, the gods made a promise to Percy and they broke it. He was going to shove Peter right in front of his mother and make her claim him like she should have done years ago. When he turned towards the elevators again, another pair of footsteps came up behind me.
"Mr. Jackson," the man from the desk said. "Who is this?" He said. Percy supposed he was talking about Peter. "Does he had authorization?" Percy was really annoyed now. He turned to the guy and to the best of his ability, tried to glare at him, or in his direction.
"He's with me." He said before slamming the elevator button, grabbing Peter by the arm, (and wow that kid had muscles) before also slamming the 'close door' button towards the bottom on the inside. When it was finally quiet, besides Peter's breathing and blood, Percy exhaled. "Okay," he said. "Do you see the golden button on the top of the panel?" Peter moved a bit.
"Um, no."
"Try harder. Focus. It's there." After a few seconds, Peter gasped.
"Yeah I see it!"
"Great. Press it." Percy leaned against the wall and folded his walking cane so it can fit inside his pocket. Everything in Olympus hummed with some sort of energy or power, Percy didn't need his stick to walk around there. "That's where Mount Olympus is."
"It's at the top of the Empire State Building?" Peter asked skeptically.
"Yep." He answered. "And there are a few rules you should follow since it's your first time meeting the gods and going to a godly place." Percy held up a finger. "One: if you're afraid of heights, don't look down, the floor is see through." He added a second finger, "Two: Don't take anything anyone offers you, even if it looks good or cool." A third finger, "Don't talk to the gods first. They like to seem important so only talk if they ask you a question first." A fourth, "Four. Don't look the gods in the eyes. They take it as offensive and 'disrespectful'." He added in quotation marks. "And finally, the most important rule." Percy heard Peter gulp. "Don't do or say anything that I do."
"Why?"
"Because I hate them and they know that. But they can't kill me without starting another war but have no qualms about killing or harming other demigods or mortals." He explained.
"Oh." Percy hoped Peter could remember all of that because the terrible music inside the elevator stopped and the doors opened up. This was a terrible idea. Percy thought before walking into Mount Olympus with a superhero on his heels.
