After Percy lost his sight, he began to notice a few things that he hadn't realized when he could see. First, he could feel the blood of the people close to him. He always knew he could sense the blood but now it was more distinct. He couldn't ignore it, even if he tried. He could hear the way it moves through their veins and if he is touching a person, their blood felt as smooth as silk. He could physical feel the movements the person made based on how their blood is moving.
Second, demigod blood was different than mortal blood. They were similar but not quite the same. Both moved slowly and both made Percy's mouth taste like iron. Ichor was vastly different than both demigod and mortal blood. Demigod blood was thicker than mortal blood. If Ichor moved like liquid cement, then demigod blood was syrup.
The third thing Percy noticed was that each demigod's blood had a slightly different sound depending on their godly parent. Percy never was able to describe it to anyone, the micro sounds that their blood made. It reminded Percy of those people with synesthesia who can see sound or hear colors. And Percy has been around the tiny humming of Annabeth's blood long enough to know that the new person that walked toward Percy was a relative of Annabeth.
"Peter, this is the new kid Fury was talking about." Tony said.
"Yeah, the new kid that Tony already offended." Steve added.
"I wasn't offended." Percy said quickly as he walked toward Peter with a purpose.
"Hi, I'm Peter Parker." He said.
"You're a demigod." Percy stated. He waited for an agreement, this kid had to know, right? If he was younger than Percy, which Percy was certain of, then he had to be at least 13 or 14 years old at the end of the Titan War. When Percy made all of the gods promise to claim all of their children. He knew Athena wasn't his biggest fan but Percy thought if any of the gods took the promise seriously it would have been her.
"What?" Peter said confused. "Like, like Hercules?" The confusion in his voice was the only thing that stopped Percy from scoffing like an asshole at the mention of the so-called hero.
"First of all, it's Heracles, second of all, do you honestly not know what I'm talking about?" Percy didn't know why Peter would lie about not knowing anything but he had to be sure.
"Wait, are you saying Peter is a demigod like you?" Steve asked from behind him. The others seem to be similarly confused, if their grunts and sighs were anything to go off.
"I literally have no idea what you're talking about." Percy could hear Peter shifting and realized he was making Peter uncomfortable. He stepped back, putting space between them.
"Right, no, of course. I'm sorry." He scoffed. Percy was going to have a big talk with Annabeth the next time he meets up with her. He was sure she would love to know she had a younger brother that her mother didn't claim. "Weird question, but when you were younger, did a picture of a grey owl ever appear over your head and then just vanish?"
"Um, no." Percy tried to give Athena the benefit of the doubt but once again he was strongly disappointed with the gods. Percy grunted and moved towards the others in the room. He plopped down on the couch Bruce had offered him and pushed his hands through his hair in frustration.
"Are you ok, Percy?" Bruce asked as he sat next to Percy with enough space between them to not make him uncomfortable.
"Would you like to explain what that was all about, kid?" Percy heard the rest of the group sit down on the couches across from them and next to them.
"Sorry, I was just surprised is all." Percy looked in the direction of Peter with the help of the humming blood coming from him. "Peter was it?" Silence.
"Pete, he's blind, he can't see you nod." Steve noted.
"Oh! I'm sorry. Yes, I'm Peter." Percy could tell from his voice that he was sitting up straighter.
"It's nice to meet all of you. Peter, Tony, Bucky, Bruce, Steve." Percy believed saying names aloud was helpful in remembering them later. "My name is Percy Jackson and I'm a demigod. My father is Poseidon, the god of the sea. Hence my ability to control water." He said quickly.
"So you are like Hercules!" Peter shouted.
"No. Heracles is an asshole." Percy growled. Unconsciously he clenched Riptide in his pocket.
"I'm not going to comment on the fact that you just implied you meet a Greek myth and focus on how you can control any water based liquid?" Percy nodded at Tony's words. "And why were you not saving the world with us? Also did you say Peter was one of those demigods?" He said accusingly. Percy was about to reply before the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. Apparently he wasn't the only once since he heard the others rubbing their necks with a grunt. But Percy's battle instincts were tingling and his guess was Peter's were too, from the sounds of him standing up quickly. Percy unleashed Riptide at the same time a thud was heard from someone large landing in front of Percy. But Percy realized too late that the someone in front of him wasn't someone he should be swinging at. Riptide slipped off his skin's surface and he laughed loudly.
"Perseus Jackson!" Thor boomed. He clapped Percy on the shoulder and he couldn't help but flinch. If Thor noticed, which Percy doubt he did, he didn't show it. "It really is you!" He laughed again.
"Hello, Lord Thor." Percy was going to get into so much trouble.
