Last time: After weeks of Poppy avoiding her; Elizabeth's descent down a darker path quickens as her and Sebastian hunt down their enemies most nights. One Saturday in late October Elizabeth, Sebastian, and Omnis spend time together in the Undercroft as Ominis and Elizabeth discuss their DADA homework. After a while Elizabeth excuses herself to join with professor Fig for the next trial. The professor is disappointed to see how much his young protégé seemingly enjoys slaughtering her enemies. The two overhear a discussion between Ranrok and Victor Rookwood about their plans to capture Elizabeth and that they are seeking something left behind the keepers. Elizabeth also learns that the Greys had dropped their support of Rookwood. Continuing with the trial Elizabeth discovers that Isidora had invented a spell to remove pain and is fascinated by the spell's potential uses and the good it could do but keeps that belief to herself.

***TRIGGER WARNINGS*** Talk of past child abuse and trauma, discussion of the cruciatus curse and torture.

The next few days after the trial passed without anything of much significance happening. Poppy was still avoiding Elizabeth and the ravenclaw still felt sick in the heart over it. Elizabeth had stopped trying to talk to her now, assuming that she was only making things worse by constantly bothering the girl. She didn't understand why the girl she considered her best friend was avoiding her; but had come to the conclusion it was likely because her favorite badger had come to realize just how broken and destructive she was. If she had been Poppy; then maybe she wouldn't have wanted to be around her either.

With that and the way Professor Fig had looked at her after seeing the way she handled her enemies; the guilt that had been piling up inside of Elizabeth was reaching a tipping point. In an effort to do better, to be better, she had stopped going out at night to search for and eliminate ashwinder and loyalist camps. While she missed the rush; she did notice that her night terrors had become slightly less vivid since she stopped her nightly escapades.

Unfortunately the ceasing of those activities had begun to strain her and Sebastian's relationship somewhat as he still encouraged her to continue forward. It didn't help that he seemed to realize she was keeping something from him. Her first instinct upon discovering the spell Isidora had crafted in the latest memory she had seen had been to tell Sebastian. Before she had managed to do so however she thought better of it. While she heavily suspected that the spell would be able to help Anne there were too many unknowns at the moment.

For one Elizabeth didn't actually know how to cast it yet. Additionally she didn't have enough information yet to determine what side effects might result from its use. That made the spell too dangerous to test on the twin sister of the young man she cared for so deeply. And since she wasn't ready or willing to cast the spell yet; she didn't want to give Sebastian false hope only to disappoint him down the line. It would be too cruel; yet what really held her back was the fear that if she told him about it and failed then he might abandon her for good. She didn't think she could handle that. She had been left behind too many times in her life by the people she cared about to think that she could survive that again. The way she had been handling the loss of Poppy in her life was proof of that.

On Thursday evening, the day before Halloween, Elizabeth entered the Undercroft after dinner with the plan to work on her charms homework only to find Sebastian pacing angrily with a scowl on his face. "Sebastian, is everything alright?" She asked with concern in her voice as he ran up to the boy and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder only for him to shrug it off.

"It's Ominis. He's being ridiculous. Apparently, Salazar Slytherin had a secret Scriptorium here in Hogwarts. Ominis swears it was used for the Dark Arts, so he wants nothing to do with it." Sebastian's scowl deepened. "But that's preposterous. I reminded him that Anne needs a cure. This 'scriptorium' could hold the answer we need. Salazar Slytherin was one of the greatest wizards of his age and a founder of Hogwarts. If there is a cure for Anne then it's very possible that his research could hold it." Towards the end of his tirade Sebastian's scowl had given way to a look of pleading desperation.
