me: The Jungle is a lot more popular than The Concert, which is kinda boggling because they're parodies of the same song.
Burt: Yeah. But out of those two, I would say I like The Jungle better, because it has a deeper meaning. Because we wanted to make a parody of The Cruel War that was about Chad because his version was the first one we ever heard.
me: I actually thought Chad wrote the original song until I looked up the lyrics. And... before we recorded The Jungle, we played our demo for Mary Travers of Peter Paul and Mary.
Burt: And we had to change the lyrics of the final verse right after.
me: Yeah, when I first wrote it, I hadn't intended it to be in a story. So originally, the final verse was about Chad's death. The lyrics were as follows:
Chad, oh Chad
Do you know what you've done
Since your life is over
Your music is gone
Though you're gone forever
I do not love you less
Would you send for me Chad
Burt: And it didn't end with 'yes, my love, yes'. It just ended on a musical interlude.
me: That's it. And when Mary heard that, she said it was too sad and suggested we make it more story friendly. So we changed the final verse and went back to the original ending where the singer does end up going to war.
Burt: And I'm glad we did that because it was now story friendly and appropriate for our story No, My Love, No.
me: Yeah, it's one of my favorites.
Burt: Any requests out there?
