me: I don't know why we didn't explain this earlier; it's one of my favorites.

Burt: It pretty much has the same recording story as If I Fell. We found it on our unreleased album.

me: But the lyric change from Everybody Hurts by Avril Lavigne is more complex. To start it, Burt should tell you about wearing his Robin tights.

Burt: I called them my 'python pants' because they nearly strangled me to death. They pulled on my leg hairs... my gosh, they were the MOST uncomfortable thing to wear. Men were not made for tights.

me: Exactly. That's why I used "every man wears tights" as an idiom for "everybody's got troubles".

Burt: I thought that was really clever, actually.

me: Thanks. At first, I wanted to dedicate it to my best friend Ava, and the original lyric was "every bestie has a fight". But I changed it because she and I fought a lot in high school and it would have made it too obvious.

Burt: The song wasn't all about Ava, but we didn't wanna offend her anyway.

me: But we did sing it for my high school health class. We were learning about mental health and helping BrainDance advocate for it. So I made a video that explained Burt's tights problem, then transitioned into how it relates to mental health.

Burt: Wearing those tights was as troubling as anything, even dealing with mental health. We just thought the song would be perfect for telling people they're not alone.

me: Yeah. And after my teacher heard the song, he told me he was gonna start singing it to future students.

Burt: Right, I remember you telling me. He was engaged then, so he said he'd sing it to his children.

me: That's right; he's probably telling people 'every man wears tights' even as we speak.

Burt: Any requests?
