Burt: This may very well be my favorite song on Emotional Scars. It's so good!
me: It's my favorite too. I remember writing it so clearly. Last October, I was watching The Wizard of Oz, and I remembered a time when I was about twelve, when I watched it with a friend and she commented how flexible the Scarecrow was.
Burt: Exactly. It's noticeable. He's falling down a lot, he's wobbling a lot, and he does it with such grace.
me: Even as a farm hand. I remember there's a moment where he whacks his finger and spins as he takes off his glove.
Burt: So yeah. That's why you hear a lot of Wizard of Oz references in that song. We're singing about the Scarecrow.
me: Well, his actor rather than his character. The second verse references Babes in Toyland.
Burt: Oh, right. We're currently doing a story with the man, Ray Bolger.
me: Yeah, and I'm having a heck of a time doing it. He's a joy to work with.
Burt: We plan to work with the rest of the cast in future stories, so stay tuned for those.
me: We're looking at you, Anna! Now, I thought it'd be a good single, but when I played it for Burt, he instantly said "that's fantastic! We have to put that on the album!" So we did.
Burt: Any requests out there?
