Girl Meets Fear Of Judgments
[ R i l e y ]
Farkle was sent straight to the hospital, after I shoved past a hurt 'clutterbucket' and pulled Farkle out of the lake.
He wasn't breathing, at all.
~
Maya and I sat next to each other outside the waiting room, with a few seats in between the two of us.
"Why did you do that?!" I exploded, breaking the silence that fell between us.
"Why did you do that, I thought- I thought you loved me" Maya stammered, the emotion of hurtfulness calling out from her eyes.
That's it. I'm so done. I can't take this anymore.
"I'm normal, Maya" I lied, "I love you as a sister, and as a friend, but not like that- I never will"
"No, I don't believe you" she insisted, her voice cracking as if she were on he verge of tears, "Y-y-you told Farkle you we-weren't n-normal" she sniffled, furiously wiping the tears that were falling from her tired, ocean blue eyes.
"I- I don't know what I was thinking, Maya, I, I'm not gay"
"But you told Farkle you were!" she insisted. I wanted to tell her truth, but I'm so tired of having her affect the way I feel.
"Oh trust me, I'm straight" I snapped, faking a smile as I stood up robustly.
"As a circle..." Maya muttered to herself, then rambled on a few other things incoherently.
Rolling my eyes, I strolled away, seemingly apathetic, when I was literally breaking down on the inside.
I could feel my heartstrings slowly ripping apart.
My head was throbbing.
Why did I do that? It was my only chance to get Maya back- did I even want her back?
~
The next day at school, Maya came into the classroom, after not showing up at home with her arm wrapped in a cast.
"Maya!?" Cory blurted. He was so shocked it looked as if his eyes were to pop out of his face, "Where have you been? Katy and I were so worried!!" He wrapped his arms around Maya, and she stood there still as a stick.
When Cory finally released her, she plunged into her usual seat. She looked at me, and bit her bottom lip.
"What happened to you?" I gasped, making the horrible choice of talking to Maya, when I really shouldn't.
"I was hit by an ambulance"
"Are you okay?!" Lucas' sprung up from his seat. He felt everyone's eyes on him, and he sat down, with robotic movements.
"Oh, I'm okay, but my faith in humanity is plummeting" Maya smirked, as a roar of laughter came over the class.
I rolled my eyes.
"Well it's great to have you back" Cory smiled, before turning to place his chalk on the board again, "Belgium"
~
Farkle and I sat beside each other during lunch, he was rambling on and on about how happy he was to finally learn about Belgium.
I was about to say something, when Zay and Darby walked by.
"Oh hey guy-" I chirped, before the wh rudely cut me off.
"Why are you with Farkle? I thought you were gay" Darby snickered, turning to the group of people that were watching behind her.
They all laughed.
"Hey, no one talks to her like that" Farkle said, standing up to face Darby, "If I knew my Riley, she's not different, and even if she were, would it matter to you guys? Would you really have to treat her differently?"
"She is gay, isn't she" Zay added.
"I'm not" I stood up too. I was scared, right now. I felt the words rise from my stomach, it ripped through my throat, as the sound of my voice projected in the room, "I love Farkle" I had said, before grabbing him by the collar, and pulled him close to me, before planting a passionate kiss to his lips.
I heard people gasp all around me, and as Farkle and I pulled apart, somewhere in the crowd, I saw my angel Maya, she looked at me with betrayal screaming from her eyes.
I locked eyes with her, and I just smiled.
