NOT MAKING THIS THE LAST CHAPTER JUST BECAUSE

Girl Meets Incision

[ R i l e y ]

"Where are you taking me?" I asked, making him tighten his grip on my hand.

They should've just handcuffed me to them or something, but oh right they couldn't, who would be naive enough to fall for that?

Oh right, me.

"You're not going to tell me?"

They stayed silent. Both of them kept their eyes in front of them, and he was kind of just dragging me instead of 'leading' me.

What is wrong with me?

My head started throbbing, maybe I wasn't thinking straight.

Maybe I was drugged.

I wonder who tried to kill me, again. Maybe this one was not intentional.

How could I think that? It was obviously a set up.

"So, Cowboys, you're just going to drag me around like a rag dol-" I started getting impatient, and may have accidentally said some things that would've been better unsaid.

Because if I hadn't said that, maybe Dylan wouldn't have dug his fingernails into my hand, causing the throbbing to come back.

I held my head with my other hand.

"You sure are reliable." I scoffed, rolling me eyes.

"What do you know about Lucas?" he retorted, and I stayed silent for the rest of the journey.

We walked down a few streets, and a few alley ways, until we got so far I didn't recognise the place.

"Um, sorry to interrupt you two, but are we even in New York anymore?" They took my down another alley way, but this was the darkest alley way we've passed by- or through.

I saw broken bits of glass laying on the floor, and newspapers were spread across the rough cement.

"This, is where Maya came every night of that summer" Asher started, picking up a half-smashed glass bottle.

It was a beer bottle. Was Maya drinking?!

He handed me the glass. I instantly felt cold. Not because of the glass, which, by the way, felt like pure ice, but the thought of Maya like this left me frozen stiff.

"Lucas, Darby, Zay, they would all be here too" Dylan let go of my throbbing hand, and took the glass away from me, "Look, I'm sorry for hurting you okay? But you have to trust us. We all want the same thi-"

That's when I cut him off.

"No, the thing is, we don't want the same things. I want Maya to come back, and you want Lucas gone. They're two completely different intentions." I kicked a can that was laying at my feet in frustration, "And you are wasting my time with this"

"Don't you want Lucas gone? He tried to murder your girlfriend" I could hear the fury rising up inside of him through Asher's tone, but I wasn't going to back down because he was mad.

I'm sure we all were. But maybe if I just let them help...

"Okay, fine. I do want Lucas gone, I want him dead, I want to see his head on a stick, but we are not killing anyone. All we're doing is finding out why Maya was murdered, and what she was hiding, deal?"

There was a long moment of silence between us, but Dylan finally spoke up.

"Deal"

And with that, we shook on it.

"What else did you know about that summer?" I sat on the ground, with my back pressed against the wall, like I always did to the door when I cried in my room.

"Not much, Lucas talked about you a lot" Dylan pulled out a cardboard box in the corner, and as it slid across the ground, I could hear the sound of glass crashing against each other inside.

"He talked about me?"

"You are Riley Matthews, aren't you?" Asher chuckled.

"What did he say?"

"That's not important." Dylan placed the box beside me, "I think you should look inside the bottles."

I had to admit, I was scared of what the bottles might reveal. But how do they know what's inside? That's the scariest part.

I took the bottles out of the box one by one, carefully setting them onto the ground to make sure they don't break.

I popped one of the covers off, I turned the bottle over and carefully tapped it, so that the note inside of it will fall out.

April 23rd.
My name is Maya Hart, if you're reading this, I'm most likely reading this with you. I need help. Please, someone's out to get me. I

And there was nothing else after that.

"That's today's date" Asher casually commented, as I passed him the note. I took the other bottle out, and did the same.

April 22nd
I know who's trying to kill me

"Guys this is enough" I threw the note at the ground, "Maya needs help... Can we leave, please?"

"Sure, it's getting dark anyways" I snatched the note that I gave Asher and shoved it into my pocket.

The walk back to the hospital was eerie. The three of us stayed silent throughout the entire journey, but the rest of the night wasn't as silent as I hoped it would be.

There were owls hooting, lights were flickering, causing them to make eerie noises, and a distant sqwaking of the ravens rang in my head. I remember that night I found Maya's suicide note, and gave it back to her using a raven.

Then I remembered.

I started to sprint, and the two Cowboys followed me.

"Hey, what's the deal Riles?" one of them snapped, but I ignored them. I ran straight across the roaring vehicles and I could see a faint building up ahead. The hospital.

~

"MAYA!" I bursted into the emergency room, and a few nurses and doctors were crowding around her bed.

"Maya!!" I pushed the doctors away, and saw her laying there lifelessly.

She can't be gone. No

I forced my tears to stay back, but they just rolled out of my eyes.

She's dead.

I stood there helplessly as they took her away.

I reached into my pocket, and pulled out the note. But it was a different note.

Girl Meets Incision.
- Maya Hart
